SPRINGER. The impact of stent design on the structural mechanics of the crossing Y-stent: an in vitro study

Chang-Young Lee, Seong-Ho Park, Chang-Hyun Kim, Goetz Benndorf

Introduction: Crossing Y-stent technique is a valid option for coiling wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms. Two main designs of stents, the closed- (CCS) and open-cell (OCS), are used in combination for a crossing Y-construct. This in vitro study was conducted to assess the mechanical characteristics of each stent-combination and to suggest an optimal combination for clinical practice.

SPRINGER. The normal internal carotid artery: a computed tomography angiographic study

Suvi Maaria Koskinen, Lauri Soinne, Leena Valanne, Heli Silvennoinen

Introduction: Systematic computed tomography angiographic (CTA) studies investigating variation in internal carotid artery (ICA) luminal diameters (LDs) are scarce. Knowledge of the normal intra-individual LD variability would provide a cut-off value for detection of more subtle collapses. In addition, low intra-individual variability would allow using contralateral LD as a reference for estimation of stenosis degree in cases where ipsilateral measurement is hampered. Therefore, our aim was to investigate intra-individual LD variation of normal ICA.

SPRINGER. Ruptured brain arteriovenous malformations associated with aneurysms: safety and efficacy of selective embolization in the acute phase of hemorrhage

Francesco Signorelli, Benjamin Gory, Isabelle Pelissou-Guyotat, Jacques Guyotat, Roberto Riva, Frédéric Dailler, Francis Turjman

Introduction: The impact of targeted embolization of ruptured cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM)-associated arterial aneurysms in the acute phase of bleeding is not well known. The objective of our study was to analyze the safety and efficacy of this treatment strategy with special emphasis on its protective effect against rebleeding.

SPRINGER. Woven Endobridge (WEB) Device for endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial wide-neck aneurysms: a single-center experience

Jildaz Caroff, Cristian Mihalea, Francesco Dargento, Hiroaki Neki, Léon Ikka, Nidhal Benachour, Jacques Moret, Laurent Spelle

Introduction: Endovascular treatment of ruptured wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms presents a challenge. While still under evaluation, the Woven Endobridge (WEB) aneurysm embolization system has so far shown promising results in the treatment of complex bifurcation aneurysms. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and short-term follow-up of endovascular treatment of ruptured wide-neck aneurysm with the WEB device.

STROKE. Clinical Sciences. Widening and High Inclination of the Middle Cerebral Artery Bifurcation Are Associated With Presence of Aneurysms

Merih I. Baharoglu, MD; Alexandra Lauric, PhD; Mina G. Safain, MD; James Hippelheuser, BS; Chengyuan Wu, MD; Adel M. Malek, MD, PhD

Background and Purpose: The middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation is a preferred site for aneurysm formation. Wider bifurcation angles have been correlated with increased risk of aneurysm formation. We hypothesized a link between the presence of MCA aneurysms and the angle morphology of the bifurcation.

STROKE. Clinical Sciences. Computed Tomographic Angiography and Cerebral Blood Volume Can Predict Final Infarct Volume and Outcome After Recanalization

Cheemun Lum, MD, FRCP; Muhammad Ejaz Ahmed, MBBS; Satya Patro, MBBS; Rebecca Thornhill, PhD; Matthew Hogan, MD, FRCP; Daniela Iancu, MD; Howard Lesiuk, MD, FRCS; Marlise dos Santos, MD, MSc; Dar Dowlatshahi, MD, PhD, FRCPC; on behalf of the Ottawa Stroke Research Group (OSRG)

Background and Purpose: Recanalization rates are higher in acute anterior stroke treated with stent-retrievers when compared with older techniques. However, some still have sizeable infarcts and poor outcome. This may be related to underestimation of core infarct on nonenhanced computed tomography (NECT). CT angiography (CTA) source images (CTASI) and CT perfusion may be more informative. We hypothesize that core infarct estimation with NECT, CTA, and CT perfusion predicts infarct at 24 hours and outcome after fast recanalization.
