Background and Purpose: The Solitaire With the Intention for Thrombectomy (SWIFT) and thrombectomy revascularization of large vessel occlusions in acute ischemic stroke (TREVO 2) trial results demonstrated improved recanalization rates with mechanical thrombectomy; however, outcomes in the elderly population remain poorly understood. Here, we report the effect of age on clinical and angiographic outcome within the North American Solitaire-FR Stent-Retriever Acute Stroke (NASA) Registry.

THE LANCET NEUROLOGY. Effects of long-term blood pressure lowering and dual antiplatelet treatment on cognitive function in patients with recent lacunar stroke: a secondary analysis from the SPS3 randomised trial

Lesly A Pearce MS a, Leslie A McClure PhD b, Prof David C Anderson MD c, Claudia Jacova PhD d, Mukul Sharma MD e, Prof Robert G Hart MD e, Prof Oscar R Benavente MD f , for the SPS3 Investigators†

Background: The primary outcome results for the SPS3 trial suggested that a lower systolic target blood pressure (<130 mm Hg) might be beneficial for reducing the risk of recurrent stroke compared with a higher target (130—149 mm Hg), but that the addition of clopidogrel to aspirin was not beneficial compared with aspirin plus placebo. In this prespecified secondary outcome analysis of the SPS3 trial, we aimed to assess whether blood pressure reduction and dual antiplatelet treatment affect changes in cognitive function over time in patients with cerebral small vessel disease.

THE LANCET NEUROLOGY. Effect of intermittent pneumatic compression on disability, living circumstances, quality of life, and hospital costs after stroke: secondary analyses from CLOTS 3, a randomised trial

CLOTS (Clots in Legs Or sTockings after Stroke) Trials Collaboration†

Background: The results of the CLOTS 3 trial showed that intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) reduced the risk of deep vein thrombosis and improved survival in immobile patients with stroke. IPC is now being widely used in stroke units. Here we describe the disability, living circumstances, quality of life, and hospital costs of patients in CLOTS 3.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Observer Variability of an Angiographic Grading Scale Used for the Assessment of Intracranial Aneurysms Treated with Flow-Diverting Stents

M.D. Joshi, C.J. O´Kelly, T. Krings, D. Fiorella and T.R. Marotta

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Novel angiographic grading scales for the assessment of intracranial aneurysms treated with flow-diverting stents have been recently developed because previous angiographic grading scales cannot be applied to these aneurysms. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the inter- and intraobserver variability of the novel O´Kelly Marotta grading scale, which was developed specifically for the angiographic assessment of aneurysms treated with flow-diverting stents.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Endovascular Management of Distal ACA Aneurysms: Single-Institution Clinical Experience in 22 Consecutive Patients and Literature Review

D.D. Cavalcanti, A.A. Abla, N.L. Martirosyan, C.G. McDougall, R.F. Spetzler and F.C. Albuquerque

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Distal ACA aneurysms remain difficult to treat with endovascular therapy, but improved technology and experience allows for the treatment of some of these aneurysms with excellent results. The purpose of this study was to assess the status of endovascular treatment of distal ACA aneurysms by comparing our results with recent endovascular and microsurgical series of distal ACA aneurysms.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Angioarchitecture of Transverse-Sigmoid Sinus Dural Arteriovenous Fistulas: Evaluation of Shunted Pouches by Multiplanar Reformatted Images of Rotational Angiography

H. Kiyosue, S. Tanoue, M. Okahara, Y. Hori, J. Kashiwagi, Y. Sagara, T. Kubo and H. Mori

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Recognition of shunted pouches dural arteriovenous fistula allows us to treat the disease effectively by selective embolization of the pouches at first. However, the shunted pouches in transverse-sigmoid sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas have not been well-documented. Our aim was to evaluate the angioarchitecture of transverse-sigmoid sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas, including the frequency and location of shunted pouches and their feeding arteries.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Coil Embolization versus Clipping for Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysms: A Meta-Analysis of Prospective Controlled Published Studies

G. Lanzino, M.H. Murad, P.I. d´Urso and A.A. Rabinstein

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Coil embolization is an alternative to clipping for intracranial aneurysms. However, controversy exists regarding the best therapeutic strategy in patients with ruptured aneurysms, and there is great center- and country-related variability in the rates of clipping versus coiling. We performed a meta-analysis of prospective controlled trials of clipping versus coil embolization for ruptured aneurysms.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Coil Type Does Not Affect Angiographic Follow-Up Outcomes of Cerebral Aneurysm Coiling: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

I. Rezek, G. Mousan, Z. Wang, M.H. Murad and D.F. Kallmes

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Previous studies varied in their conclusions about the superiority of second-generation coils compared with bare platinum. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we assessed differences in reported unfavorable angiographic outcomes of cerebral aneurysms treated with coil embolization as a function of coil type.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Differences between Internal Jugular Vein and Vertebral Vein Flow Examined in Real Time with the Use of Multigate Ultrasound Color Doppler

G. Ciuti, D. Righi, L. Forzoni, A. Fabbri and A. Moggi Pignone

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The hypothesis that MS could be provoked by a derangement of the blood outflow from the brain has been largely discredited. In part, it was because data on the normal pattern of outflow are scarce and obtained with different methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the normal pattern of outflow for the vertebral and internal jugular veins in healthy subjects with multigate color Doppler.
