SPRINGER. CT angiography after carotid artery stenting: assessment of the utility of adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction and model-based iterative reconstruction

Keita Kuya, Yuki Shinohara, Makoto Sakamoto, Naoki Iwata, Junichi Kishimoto, Shinya Fujii, Toshio Kaminou, Takashi Watanabe, Toshihide Ogawa

Introduction: Follow-up CT angiography (CTA) is routinely performed for post-procedure management after carotid artery stenting (CAS). However, the stent lumen tends to be underestimated because of stent artifacts on CTA reconstructed with the filtered back projection (FBP) technique. We assessed the utility of new iterative reconstruction techniques, such as adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) and model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR), for CTA after CAS in comparison with FBP.

SPRINGER. Clinical utility and cost-effectiveness of CT-angiography in the diagnosis of nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage

Ramazan Jabbarli, Mukesch Shah, Christian Taschner, Klaus Kaier, Beate Hippchen, Vera Van Velthoven

Introduction: CT-angiography gains an increasing role in the initial diagnosis of patients with nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). However, the implementation of CT-angiography does not always exclude the necessity of conventional angiography. Our objective was to determine the practical utility and cost-effectiveness of CT-angiography.

SPRINGER. Modified protection using far proximal portion of self-expandable closed-cell stents for embolization of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms

Young Dae Cho, Hyun-Seung Kang, Jeong Eun Kim, Won-Sang Cho, Hyon-Jo Kwon, Hyeon-Song Koh, Moon Hee Han

Introduction: Stent-assisted embolization is sometimes limited in wide-necked aneurysms involving the acute-angled origins of tortuous branching arteries, and occasionally, Y-shaped stenting is required to remedy the sweeping effects of a broad aneurysmal neck on arterial branches. Described herein is a modified stent-assisted coil embolization technique entailing strategic placement of far proximal stent (“distal stenting”) as an alternate approach in such scenarios.

SPRINGER. The normal internal carotid artery: a computed tomography angiographic study

Suvi Maaria Koskinen, Lauri Soinne, Leena Valanne, Heli Silvennoinen

Introduction: Systematic computed tomography angiographic (CTA) studies investigating variation in internal carotid artery (ICA) luminal diameters (LDs) are scarce. Knowledge of the normal intra-individual LD variability would provide a cut-off value for detection of more subtle collapses. In addition, low intra-individual variability would allow using contralateral LD as a reference for estimation of stenosis degree in cases where ipsilateral measurement is hampered. Therefore, our aim was to investigate intra-individual LD variation of normal ICA.

SPRINGER. Differentiating intraparenchymal hemorrhage from contrast extravasation on post-procedural noncontrast CT scan in acute ischemic stroke patients undergoing endovascular treatment

Seyedmehdi Payabvash, Mushtaq H. Qureshi, Shayaan M. Khan, Mahnoor Khan, Shahram Majidi, Swaroop Pawar, Adnan I Qureshi

Introduction: This study aimed to identify the imaging characteristics that can help differentiate intraparenchymal hemorrhage from benign contrast extravasation on post-procedural noncontrast CT scan in acute ischemic stroke patients after endovascular treatment.

SPRINGER. An alternative technique of the superselective catheterization of the ophthalmic artery for intra-arterial chemotherapy of the retinoblastoma: retrograde approach through the posterior communicating artery to the ophthalmic artery

Muzaffer Saglam, Ahmet Sarici, Vania Anagnostakou, Bulent Yildiz, Naci Kocer, Civan Islak, Osman Kizilkilic

Introduction: Superselective intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) in retinoblastoma has recently become a popular treatment option. In this study, we purposed to investigate the effectiveness of the technique of “retrograde approach through the posterior communicating artery to the ophthalmic artery (OA)” for IAC.

SPRINGER. Woven Endobridge (WEB) Device for endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial wide-neck aneurysms: a single-center experience

Jildaz Caroff, Cristian Mihalea, Francesco Dargento, Hiroaki Neki, Léon Ikka, Nidhal Benachour, Jacques Moret, Laurent Spelle

Introduction: Endovascular treatment of ruptured wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms presents a challenge. While still under evaluation, the Woven Endobridge (WEB) aneurysm embolization system has so far shown promising results in the treatment of complex bifurcation aneurysms. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and short-term follow-up of endovascular treatment of ruptured wide-neck aneurysm with the WEB device.

SPRINGER. Ruptured brain arteriovenous malformations associated with aneurysms: safety and efficacy of selective embolization in the acute phase of hemorrhage

Francesco Signorelli, Benjamin Gory, Isabelle Pelissou-Guyotat, Jacques Guyotat, Roberto Riva, Frédéric Dailler, Francis Turjman

Introduction: The impact of targeted embolization of ruptured cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM)-associated arterial aneurysms in the acute phase of bleeding is not well known. The objective of our study was to analyze the safety and efficacy of this treatment strategy with special emphasis on its protective effect against rebleeding.

SPRINGER. Computed tomographic angiography criteria in the diagnosis of brain death—comparison of sensitivity and interobserver reliability of different evaluation scales

Marcin Sawicki, R. Bohatyrewicz, K. Safranow, A. Walecka, J. Walecki, O. Rowinski, J. Solek-Pastuszka, Z. Czajkowski, M. Guzinski, M. Burzynska, J. Wojczal

Introduction: The standardized diagnostic criteria for computed tomographic angiography (CTA) in diagnosis of brain death (BD) are not yet established. The aim of the study was to compare the sensitivity and interobserver agreement of the three previously used scales of CTA for the diagnosis of BD.

SPRINGER. Endovascular treatment for superior cerebellar artery aneurysms: morphological features, technique, and outcome

Chang Hun Kim, Young Dae Cho, Seung Chai Jung, Jun Hyong Ahn, Hyun-Seung Kang, Jeong Eun Kim, Won-Sang Cho, Moon Hee Han

Introduction: Superior cerebellar artery (SCA) aneurysms have distinctive morphologic configurations and vascular origins. Herein, we have analyzed the angioarchitectural characteristics of SCA aneurysms and outcomes achieved through endovascular treatment.

SPRINGER. The impact of stent design on the structural mechanics of the crossing Y-stent: an in vitro study

Chang-Young Lee, Seong-Ho Park, Chang-Hyun Kim, Goetz Benndorf

Introduction: Crossing Y-stent technique is a valid option for coiling wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms. Two main designs of stents, the closed- (CCS) and open-cell (OCS), are used in combination for a crossing Y-construct. This in vitro study was conducted to assess the mechanical characteristics of each stent-combination and to suggest an optimal combination for clinical practice.
