Introduction: It is still unclear how often subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) leads to chronic hemosiderin depositions. In this study, we aimed to determine the frequency of chronic hemosiderin depositions after aneurysmal SAH in patients who did not undergo surgery. Furthermore, we analyzed typical MRI patterns of chronic SAH and sought to obtain information on the temporal course of MRI signal changes.
Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate the degree of atherosclerotic changes in intracranial arteries by assessing arterial wall thickness using T1-weighted 3D-turbo spin echo (3D-TSE) and time-of-flight MR angiography (TOF-MRA) in patients with acute ischemic stroke as compared with unaffected controls.
Introduction: The distance to thrombus (DT) on CT angiography was recently proposed as a predictor of outcome in patients treated by intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for stroke due to occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). The purpose of the present study was to validate its inter-rater reliability and its prognostic value on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA). Furthermore, we investigated the relation between DT and FLAIR-vascular hyperintensities (FVH) as a surrogate of collateral circulation and hypoperfusion.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Treatment options for nonsaccular posterior cerebral artery aneurysms include a range of surgical and endovascular reconstructive and deconstructive methods. However, no truly satisfactory treatment option is available to date for lesions arising from the P1 and P2 segments. The purpose of the present case series is to investigate both the efficacy and safety of the Pipeline Embolization Device in treating these challenging aneurysms.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The advent of modern neuroendovascular techniques has highlighted the need for a simple, effective, and reliable brain arteriovenous malformation endovascular grading scale. A novel scale of this type has recently been described. It incorporates the number of feeding arteries, eloquence, and the presence of an arteriovenous fistula component. Our aim is to assess the validity of this grading scale.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Nodular goiter is one of the most common benign lesions in thyroid nodule. The main treatment of the disease is still the traditional surgical resection, however there are many problems such as general anesthesia, surgical scar, postoperative thyroid or parathyroid function abnormalities, and high nodules recurrence rate in residual gland. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of 2 treatment methods, surgery and radiofrequency ablation, for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The role of MR imaging in predicting underlying intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis before endovascular stroke therapy has not been studied. Our aim was to determine the diagnostic value of the negative susceptibility vessel sign on T2*-weighted gradient-echo MR imaging for predicting underlying intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis in patients with acute MCA occlusion.
Introduction: Different devices and techniques are available for endovascular treatment of ischemic stroke. In this in vitro study, we examined the stent-thrombus interaction and the influence of additional aspiration on the efficiency of mechanical thrombectomy with established stent retrievers.
Introduction: Although cavernous sinus (CS) dural arteriovenous fistulas (d-AVFs) are usually treated with transvenous embolization (TVE) via the inferior petrosal sinus (IPS), IPSs are sometimes thrombosed and angiographically invisible. In such cases, the first obstacle to TVE is detecting the entry to the IPS. We report a new technique for TVE via IPS using intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS).
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Dual-energy CT features the opportunity to differentiate among up to 3 different materials because the absorption of x-rays depends on the applied tube voltage and the atomic number of the material. For example, it is possible to distinguish between blood-brain barrier disruption and an intracerebral hemorrhage following treatment for a stroke. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether dual-energy CT is capable of distinguishing intra-arterial contrast agent from residually clotted vessels immediately after endovascular stroke therapy.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Inflammation and degeneration of the intracranial saccular aneurysm wall play a major role in aneurysm formation, development and subsequent rupture. The aim of this study was to characterize the walls of unruptured intracranial aneurysms by using a hybrid of opposite-contrast MRA at 3T.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The safety and efficacy of the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device for the treatment of cerebral aneurysms have been investigated in several studies. Most of these studies focused on specific aneurysms or a certain WEB device. Our objective was to report the experience of 2 German centers with the WEB device, including technical feasibility, safety, and short-term angiographic outcome.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Medullary thyroid carcinoma is an uncommon malignancy that is challenging to diagnose. Our aim was to present our experience using core needle biopsy for the diagnosis of medullary thyroid carcinoma compared with fine-needle aspiration.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Few data are available on the frequency and location distribution of fenestrations of intracranial arteries. We used 3D rotational angiography of all intracranial arteries in a cohort of 179 patients with suspected intracranial aneurysms to assess the prevalence and location of fenestrations and the relation of fenestrations to aneurysms.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: From the time-attenuation curves of DSA flow parameters, maximal intensity, maximal slope, and full width at half maximum of selected vascular points are defined. The study explores the reliability of defining the flow parameters by the time-attenuation curves of DSA.
