Stryker Announces Positive Clinical Results From The Trevo(R) Retriever System

Today at the European Stroke Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, Stryker announced the results of the TREVO 2 clinical trial. The study met the primary effectiveness endpoint, with the Trevo® Retriever achieving significantly better post-device revascularization than the Merci® Retriever (86.4% in the Trevo® Retriever arm compared to 60% in the Merci® Retriever arm). The rates of functional independence at 90 days for patients treated with the Trevo Retriever were also better than for the Merci® Retriever (40% mRS less than or equal to 2 compared to 21.8%). Other measures of performance also strongly favored the Trevo Retriever, including improvement in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and shorter hospital stays.

La radiocirugía es el tratamiento más eficaz para pacientes con malformaciones arteriovenosas del tronco cerebral

La Radiocirugía estereotáxica realizada con el protocolo de dosis moderadas que aplican. los especialistas del Grupo IMO, constituye un tratamiento eficaz y una modalidad terapéutica de elección para los pacientes que presentan malformaciones arteriovenosas de tronco cerebral. Asimismo, destaca la alta supervivencia obtenida que es del 88% a cinco y diez años desde que se inició el tratamiento. Estas han sido las conclusiones principales de un estudio que ha presentado el Dr. Luis Lorenzana, especialista en Neurocirugía de la Unidad de Oncología Radioterápica del Grupo IMO en el Hospital San Francisco de Asís de Madrid, con motivo del XVII Congreso Nacional de la Sociedad Española de Neurocirugía que se celebró en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Carotid stenting has grown considerably in the past decade as a viable and equivalent alternative to open surgery, called carotid artery endarterectomy (CAE). While both procedures are designed to open blocked carotid arteries in the neck, the minimally invasive technique of carotid artery stenting (CAS) has obvious appeal for patients. However, some patients are at higher risk with the stenting procedure and are better treated with surgery. How to identify those patients has been a matter of increased importance.

Las mujeres mayores con la arritmia conocida como fibrilación auricular se enfrentan a un riesgo de accidente cerebrovascular (ACV) 14 por ciento más elevado que los hombres con la misma afección, informan investigadores canadienses. El aumento en el riesgo permaneció incluso cuando las mujeres tomaban el anticoagulante warfarina (Coumadin) para prevenir el ACV, señalaron los autores del estudio.

An update to the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association guidelines for the management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage places new emphasis on treating patients at high-volume centers with multidisciplinary teams and following up with patients after treatment to detect rebleeding and delayed cerebral ischemia, along with other potential complications.
