AJNR. Stent-Assisted Coiling of Intracranial Bifurcation Aneurysms Leads to Immediate and Delayed Intracranial Vascular Angle Remodeling

B. Gao, M.I. Baharoglu, A.D. Cohen, and A.M. Malek

Wide-neck bifurcating aneurysms are increasingly treated with intracranial stent-assisted coiling by using shape-memory alloy microstents. We sought to investigate the short- and long-term effects of intracranial stent implantation on the geometry and angular conformation of the stent-coiled vascular bifurcation. Vincent Costalat, M.D., Igor Lima Maldonado, M.D., Jean-François Vendrell, M.D., Carlos Riquelme, M.D., Paolo Machi, M.D., Charles Arteaga, M.D., Ph.D., Francis Turjman, M.D., Ph.D., Hubert Desal, M.D., Ph.D., Jacques Sedat, M.D., Ph.D., and Alain Bonafé, M.D., Ph.D.

The limitations of the medical management of symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis (SIAS) have encouraged the development of new strategies, such as endovascular treatment. In this study, the authors report and analyze a series of 63 endovascular procedures in which the Wingspan stent system was used. JNS October 2011, Volume 115, Issue 4. J Neurosurg 115:686–693, 2011

JNS. The Barrow Ruptured Aneurysm Trial

Giuseppe Lanzino, M.D.

The purpose of this ongoing study is to compare the safety and efficacy of microsurgical clipping and endovascular coil embolization for the treatment of acutely ruptured cerebral aneurysms and to determine if one treatment is superior to the other by examining clinical and angiographic outcomes. The authors examined the null hypothesis that no difference exists between the 2 treatment modalities in the setting of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The current report is limited to the clinical results at 1 year after treatment. JNS January 2012, Volume 116, Issue 1. J Neurosurg 116:135–144, 2012

AJNR. Treatment of Brain Arteriovenous Malformations by Double Arterial Catheterization with Simultaneous Injection of Onyx: Retrospective Series of 17 Patients

D.G. Abud, R. Riva, G.S. Nakiri, F. Padovani, M. Khawaldeh, and C. Mounayer

The use of Onyx in the treatment of intracranial AVMs has increased the cure rate of endovascular embolization compared with the use of liquid adhesive agents. Inadvertent occlusion of the draining veins before the complete exclusion of the nidus constitutes a major risk of bleeding. We report a case series using the technique of double simultaneous arterial catheterization as an approach to achieve the complete exclusion of the nidus before reaching the venous drainage, through a more controlled hemodynamic filling. AJNR. Neurovascular In-Stent Stenoses: Treatment with Conventional and Drug-Eluting Balloons

Z. Vajda, T. Güthe, M. Aguilar Perez, A. Heuschmid, E. Schmid, H. Bäzner, and H. Henkes

ISRs remain a major issue in the endovascular management of ICAD, requiring retreatment by reangioplasty. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the technical feasibility, safety, and efficiency of the novel DEBs for neurovascular ISRs. NEURORADIOLOGY. Long-term MRA follow-up after coiling of intracranial aneurysms: impact on mood and anxiety

Sandra P. Ferns & Pythia T. Nieuwkerk & Willem Jan J. van Rooij & Gabriël J. E. Rinkel & Charles B. L. M. Majoie

Introduction Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) screening for recurrence of a coiled intracranial aneurysm and formation of new aneurysms long-term after coiling may induce anxiety and depression. In coiled patients, we evaluated effects on mood and level of anxiety from longterm follow-up MRA in comparison to general population norms. Neuroradiology (2011) 53:343–348. Taro Takahara, Thomas C. Kwee, Jeroen Hendrikse, Marc Van Cauteren, Dow-Mu Koh, Tetsu Niwa, Willem P. Th. M. Mali and Peter R. Luijten

Introduction The aim of this study was to introduce and assess a new magnetic resonance (MR) technique for selective peripheral nerve imaging, called “subtraction of unidirectionally encoded images for suppression of heavily isotropic objects” (SUSHI). NEURORADIOLOGY. Developmental venous anomalies: appearance on whole-brain CT digital subtraction angiography and CT perfusion

Eric H. Hanson, Cayce J. Roach, Erik N. Ringdahl, Brad L. Wynn, Sean M. DeChancie, Nathan D. Mann, Alan S. Diamond and William W. Orrison

Introduction: Developmental venous anomalies (DVA) consist of dilated intramedullary veins that converge into a large collecting vein. The appearance of these anomalies was evaluated on whole-brain computed tomography (CT) digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and CT perfusion (CTP) studies. Neuroradiology Volume 53, Number 5 (2011), 331-341, DOI: 10.1007/s00234-010-0739-9. Copyright The Author(s) 2010. This article is published with open access at pringerlink.com

NEURORADIOLOGY. Postprocedural CT for perivertebral cement leakage in percutaneous vertebroplasty is not necessary—results from VERTOS II

Alexander Venmans, Caroline A. Klazen, Willem Jan van Rooij, Jolanda de Vries, Willem P. Mali and Paul N. Lohle

Introduction During percutaneous vertebroplasty (PV), perivertebral cement leakage frequently occurs. There is some concern that cement deposits may migrate towards the lungs via the veins during follow-up. We used baseline and follow-up computed tomography (CT) to assess the incidence and extend of late cement migration in a large consecutive patient cohort. Neuroradiology (2011) 53:19–22. NEURORADIOLOGY. Comparing different MR angiography strategies of carotid stents in a vascular flow model: toward stent-specific recommendations in MR follow-up

Andreas M. J. Frölich, Sara M. Pilgram-Pastor, Marios N. Psychogios, Alexander Mohr and Michael Knauth

Introduction: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) requires adequate follow-up imaging to assess complications such as in-stent stenosis or occlusion. Options include digital subtraction angiography, CT angiography, ultrasound, and MR angiography (MRA), which may offer a non-invasive option for CAS follow-up imaging. The aim of this study was to assess contrast-enhanced MRA (CE-MRA) and three-dimensional time-of-flight MRA (3D-TOF) for visualization of the in-stent lumen in different carotid stents.
