JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Detection of early portal hypertension with routine data and liver stiffness in patients with asymptomatic liver disease: A prospective study

Salvador Augustin , Laura Millán , Antonio González , María Martell , Arántzazu Gelabert , Antoni Segarra , Xavier Serres , Rafael Esteban , Joan Genescà

Background & Aims: Detecting portal hypertension (PH) before the development of varices is important for prognosis and for designing interventional studies. None of the available strategies is used in practice. We evaluated a sequential screening-diagnostic strategy based on clinical data and transient elastography (TE) to detect PH in asymptomatic outpatients with liver disease.

JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Mediterranean diet and hepatocellular carcinoma

Federica Turati , Dimitrios Trichopoulos , Jerry Polesel , Francesca Bravi , Marta Rossi , Renato Talamini , Silvia Franceschi , Maurizio Montella , Antonia Trichopoulou , Carlo La Vecchia , Pagona Lagiou

Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a very poor prognosis and any effort to identify additional risk factors, besides those already established, would be important for the prevention of the disease. Data on the role of diet on HCC risk are still controversial.

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGY. Liver resection and radiofrequency ablation of very early hepatocellular carcinoma cases (single nodule <2 cm): a single-center study

Zhou, Zhipeng; Lei, Jianyong; Li, Bo; Yan, Lunan; Wang, Wentao; Wei, Yonggang; Cheng, Kefei

Aim: The aim: of our study was to compare the short-term and long-term outcomes of resection and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in cases of very early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (tumors<2 cm in diameter).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Embolization of Life-Threatening Arterial Rupture in Patients with Vascular Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome

Takuya Okada, Michael Frank, Olivier Pellerin, Massimiliano Di Primio, Georgios Angelopoulos, Marie-Fazia Boughenou, Jean-Yves Pagny, Emmanuel Messas, Marc Sapoval

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transarterial embolization of life-threatening arterial rupture in patients with vascular Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (vEDS) in a single tertiary referral center.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Minimally Invasive Treatment of Giant Haemangiomas of the Liver: Embolisation With Bleomycin

Halil Bozkaya, Celal Cinar, Fahri Halit Besir, Mustafa Parıldar, Ismail Oran

Purpose: The management of patients with giant haemangioma of the liver remains controversial. Although the usual treatment method for symptomatic giant haemangioma is surgery, the classical paradigm of operative resection remains. In this study, we evaluated the symptomatic improvement and size-reduction effect of embolisation with bleomycin mixed with lipiodol for the treatment of symptomatic giant hepatic haemangioma.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Transjugular Endovascular Recanalization of Splenic Vein in Patients with Regional Portal Hypertension Complicated by Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Xuefeng Luo, Ling Nie, Zhu Wang, Jiaywei Tsauo, Chengwei Tang, Xiao Li

Purpose: Regional portal hypertension (RPH) is an uncommon clinical syndrome resulting from splenic vein stenosis/occlusion, which may cause gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding from the esophagogastric varices. The present study evaluated the safety and efficacy of transjugular endovascular recanalization of splenic vein in patients with GI bleeding secondary to RPH.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. A Role for Adjuvant RFA in Managing Hepatic Metastases from Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) After Treatment with Targeted Systemic Therapy Using Kinase Inhibitors

Antoine Hakimé, Axel Le Cesne, Frederic Deschamps, Geoffroy Farouil, Sana Boudabous, Anne Aupérin, Julien Domont, Thierry Debaere

Purpose: This study was designed to assess the role of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the multimodality management of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) in patients undergoing targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy (TKI) for liver metastases.
