CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Safety and Efficacy of a Circumferential Clip-Based Vascular Closure Device in Cirrhotic and Coagulopathic Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma After Doxorubicin Drug-eluting Beads Transarterial Chemoembolization

Hasmukh J. Prajapati, Shoaib Rafi, Faramarz Edalat, David A. Kooby, Hyun S. Kim

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of the circumferential clip-based (StarClose) vascular closure device (VCD) in coagulopathic and cirrhotic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after doxorubicin drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB TACE).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Angioplasty Using Covered Stents in Five Patients With Symptomatic Pulmonary Artery Stenosis After Single-Lung Transplantation

Ahuva Grubstein, Eli Atar, Sergey Litvin, Alexander Belenky, Michael Knizhnik, Benjamin Medalion, Yael Raviv, Mordechai R. Kramer, Benjamin D. Fox

Objective: After lung transplantation, pulmonary artery stenosis (PAS) may occur at the anastomotic site, resulting in poor graft function and hypoxemia. Surgical repair has been the standard-of-care, although percutaneous angioplasty with stent insertion has been performed in patients unsuitable for surgery. We summarize our experience of pulmonary artery stent-graft placement in transplant recipients who were also fit for surgical repair.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Simultaneous Biliary Drainage and Portal Vein Embolization Before Extended Hepatectomy for Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma: Preliminary Experience

Boris Guiu, Pierre Bize, Nicolas Demartines, Mickaël Lesurtel, Alban Denys

Background: Patients with resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma often present obstructive jaundice and a small future remnant liver (FRL) ratio. A sequential approach comprising preoperative biliary drainage followed by portal vein embolization (PVE) is usually performed but leads to long preoperative management (6–12 weeks) before patients can undergo resection. To simplify and shorten this phase of liver preparation, we developed a new preoperative approach that involves percutaneous biliary drainage and PVE during the same procedure. We report the outcomes of this combined procedure.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Coagulation Areas Produced by Cool-Tip Radiofrequency Ablation and Microwave Ablation Using a Device to Decrease Back-Heating Effects: A Prospective Pilot Study

Francesca Di Vece, Paola Tombesi, Francesca Ermili, Cinzia Maraldi, Sergio Sartori

Purpose: To compare the ablation area produced by a single application of a microwave ablation (MWA) system, equipped with a miniaturized device on the tip of the antenna entrapping reflected microwaves, with that produced by an internally cooled radiofrequency ablation (RFA) system.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Management of Painful Pelvic Bone Metastasis of Renal Cell Carcinoma Using Embolization, Radio-frequency Ablation, and Cementoplasty: A Prospective Evaluation of Efficacy and Safety

Olivier Pellerin, Jacques Medioni, Claire Vulser, Carole Déan, Stéphane Oudard, Marc Sapoval

Purpose: To measure the impact on pain relief and patient quality of life using embolization radio-frequency ablation and cementoplasty (ERC) for local combination therapeutic management of painful pelvic bone metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. MR Imaging of Therapeutic Magnetic Microcarriers Guided by Magnetic Resonance Navigation for Targeted Liver Chemoembolization

Pierre Pouponneau, Gilles Soulez, Gilles Beaudoin, Jean-Christophe Leroux, Sylvain Martel

Purpose: Magnetic resonance navigation (MRN), achieved with an upgraded MRI scanner, aims to guide new therapeutic magnetic microcarriers (TMMC) from their release in the hepatic vascular network to liver tumor. In this technical note, in vitro and in vivo MRI properties of TMMC, loaded with iron–cobalt nanoparticles and doxorubicin, are reported by following three objectives: (1) to evaluate the lengthening of echo-time (TE) on nano/microparticle imaging; (2) to characterize by MRI TMMC distribution in the liver; and (3) to confirm the feasibility of monitoring particle distribution in real time.
