CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Image Registration of Cone-Beam Computer Tomography and Preprocedural Computer Tomography Aids in Localization of Adrenal Veins and Decreasing Radiation Dose in Adrenal Vein Sampling

Wendy M. H. Busser, Mark J. Arntz, Sjoerd F. M. Jenniskens, Jaap Deinum, Yvonne L. Hoogeveen, Frank de Lange, Leo J. Schultze Kool

Purpose: We assessed whether image registration of cone-beam computed tomography (CT) (CBCT) and contrast-enhanced CT (CE-CT) images indicating the locations of the adrenal veins can aid in increasing the success rate of first-attempts adrenal vein sampling (AVS) and therefore decreasing patient radiation dose.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Feasibility Study on MR-Guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation of Sciatic Nerve in a Swine Model: Preliminary Results

Elena A. Kaye, Narendra Babu Gutta, Sebastien Monette, Amitabh Gulati, Jeffrey Loh, Govindarajan Srimathveeravalli, Paula C. Ezell, Joseph P. Erinjeri, Stephen B. Solomon, Majid Maybody

Introduction: Spastic patients often seek neurolysis, the permanent destruction of the sciatic nerve, for better pain management. MRI-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU) may serve as a noninvasive alternative to the prevailing, more intrusive techniques. This in vivo acute study is aimed at performing sciatic nerve neurolysis using a clinical MRgHIFU system.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Renal Sympathetic Denervation by CT-scan-Guided Periarterial Ethanol Injection in Sheep

Kavous Firouznia, Sayed jaber Hosseininasab, Saeid Amanpour, Arya Haj-Mirzaian, Roza Miri, Ahad Muhammadnejad, Samad Muhammadnejad, Amir H. Jalali, Farrokhlagha Ahmadi, Hadi Rokni-Yazdi

Background: Renal nerves are a recent target in the treatment of hypertension. Renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) is currently performed using catheter-based radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and because this method has limitations, percutaneous magnetic resonance (MR)-guided periarterial ethanol injection is a suggested alternative. However, few studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of percutaneous ethanol injection for RSD.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Simultaneous Multiple Preoperative Localizations of Small Pulmonary Lesions Using a Short Hook Wire and Suture System

Toshihiro Iguchi, Takao Hiraki, Hideo Gobara, Hiroyasu Fujiwara, Yusuke Matsui, Seiichiro Sugimoto, Shinichi Toyooka, Takahiro Oto, Shinichiro Miyoshi, Susumu Kanazawa

Purpose: The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate simultaneous multiple hook wire placement outcomes before video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Delayed-Phase Cone-Beam CT Improves Detectability of Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma During Conventional Transarterial Chemoembolization

Ruediger Egbert Schernthaner, MingDe Lin, Rafael Duran, Julius Chapiro, Zhijun Wang, Jean-François Geschwind

Purpose: To evaluate the detectability of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) on dual-phase cone-beam CT (DPCBCT) during conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) compared to that of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) with respect to pre-procedure contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) of the liver.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Is Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Percutaneous Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of Primary Liver Tumors Necessary? Results From a Single-Center Experience

Shivank S. Bhatia, Seth Spector, Ana Echenique, Tatiana Froud, Rekha Suthar, Ivy Lawson, Ravi Dalal, Vy Dinh, Jose Yrizarry, Govindarajan Narayanan

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate need for antibiotic prophylaxis for radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of liver tumors in patients with no significant co-existing risk factors for infection.

Steffen Marquardt, Thomas Rodt, Herbert Rosenthal, Frank Wacker, Bernhard C. Meyer

Purpose: To assess the impact of anatomical, procedural, and operator skill factors on the success and duration of fluoroscopy-guided transjugular intrahepatic portoystemic shunt following standard operating procedure (SOP).

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Management of Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Medications in Adults Undergoing Percutaneous Interventions

Tracy A. Jaffe, Doug Raiff, Lisa M. Ho and Charles Y. Kim

OBJECTIVE: Many radiologists are unfamiliar with the new antithrombogenic medications and how to modify patient management before nonvascular percutaneous procedures performed in a radiology department. In this article, we review the indications for use, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, dosing, and recommendations for periprocedural management of patients using these medications.
