JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Use of early-TIPS for high-risk variceal bleeding: Results of a post-RCT surveillance study

Juan Carlos Garcia-Pagán , Marco Di Pascoli , Karel Caca , Wim Laleman , Cristophe Bureau , Beate Appenrodt , Angelo Luca , Alexander Zipprich , Juan G. Abraldes , Frederik Nevens , Jean Pierre Vinel , Tilman Sauerbruch , Jaime Bosch

Background & Aims: In a recent randomized international clinical trial (RCT) in high-risk cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding, the early use of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) was associated with marked and significant reductions in both treatment failure and mortality. The aim of this study was to confirm these results in clinical practice in the same centers of the RCT study.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY.Postpartum Hemorrhage Treated with Gelfoam Slurry Embolization Using the Superselective Technique: Immediate Results and 1-Month MRI Follow-up

Olivier Pellerin, Anne-Sophie Bats, Massimiliano Di Primio, Ana Palomera-Ricco, Gabrielle Pinot de Villechenon, Laure Fournier, Jean-Yves Pagny, Bernard Beyssen, Bertrand Louail, Fabrice Lécuru, Marc Sapoval

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of superselective embolization of the uterine arteries in a postpartum hemorrhage.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY.Protective Embolization of the Gastroduodenal Artery with a One-HydroCoil Technique in Radioembolization Procedures

R. López-Benítez, P. Hallscheidt, C. Kratochwil, C. Ernst, L. Kara, O. Rusch, P. Vock, J. Kettenbach

Purpose: Protective occlusion of the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) is required to avoid severe adverse effects and complications in radioembolization procedures. Because of the expandable features of HydroCoils, our goal was to occlude the GDA with only one HydroCoil to provide particle reflux protection.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Preoperative Direct Puncture Embolization of Advanced Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma in Combination with Transarterial Embolization: An Analysis of 22 Consecutive Patients

Ming-ming Lv, Xin-dong Fan, Li-xin Su, Dong Chen

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical application of preoperative auxiliary embolization for juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) by direct puncture embolization (DPE) of the tumor in combination with transarterial embolization (TAE).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Extrahepatic Pseudoaneurysms and Ruptures of the Hepatic Artery in Liver Transplant Recipients: Endovascular Management and a New Iatrogenic Etiolog

Wael E. A. Saad, Niloy Dasgupta, Allison J. Lippert, Ulku C. Turba, Mark G. Davies, Sean Kumer, Jason C. Gardenier, Saher S. Sabri, Auh-Whan Park, David L. Waldman, Timothy Schmitt, Alan H. Matsumoto, John F. Angle

Purpose: To characterize extrahepatic pseudoaneurysm regarding incidence and etiology and determine the effectiveness of endovascular management.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Embolization of Incompetent Pelvic Veins for the Treatment of Recurrent Varicose Veins in Lower Limbs and Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Luis Meneses, Mario Fava, Pía Diaz, Marcelo Andía, Cristian Tejos, Pablo Irarrazabal, Sergio Uribe

Purpose: We present our experience with embolization of incompetent pelvic veins (IPV) in women with recurrence of varicose veins (VV) in lower limbs, as well as symptoms of pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS), after first surgery. In addition, we evaluated the effects of embolization in decreasing the symptoms of VV before surgery as well as its effects on PCS symptoms.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. US-Guided Femoral and Sciatic Nerve Blocks for Analgesia During Endovenous Laser Ablation

Saim Yilmaz, Kagan Ceken, Emel Alimoglu, Timur Sindel

Purpose: Endovenous laser ablation may be associated with significant pain when performed under standard local tumescent anesthesia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of femoral and sciatic nerve blocks for analgesia during endovenous ablation in patients with lower extremity venous insufficiency.

RADIOLOGY. Intraprocedural C-Arm Dual-Phase Cone-Beam CT: Can It Be Used to Predict Short-term Response to TACE with Drug-eluting Beads in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma?

Romaric Loffroy, MD, PhD, MingDe Lin, PhD, Gayane Yenokyan, PhD, Pramod P. Rao, MD, Nikhil Bhagat, MD, Niels Noordhoek, PhD, Alessandro Radaelli, PhD, Järl Blijd, MSc, Eleni Liapi, MD and Jean-François Geschwind, MD

Purpose: To investigate whether C-arm dual-phase cone-beam computed tomography (CT) performed during transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with doxorubicin-eluting beads can help predict tumor response at 1-month follow-up in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
