CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Postpartum Hemorrhage Resulting from Pelvic Pseudoaneurysm: A Retrospective Analysis of 588 Consecutive Cases Treated by Arterial Embolization

Anthony Dohan, Philippe Soyer, Aqeel Subhani, Delphine Hequet, Yann Fargeaudou, Olivier Morel, Mourad Boudiaf, Etienne Gayat, Emmanuel Barranger, Olivier Le Dref, Marc Sirol

Objective: his study was designed to determine the incidence of arterial pseudoaneurysm in patients presenting with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), to analyze the angiographic characteristics of pseudoaneurysms that cause PPH, and to evaluate the effectiveness of pelvic arterial embolization for the treatment of this condition.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Treatment of Visceral Aneurysm Using Multilayer Stent: Two-Year Follow-Up Results in Five Consecutive Patients

Alberto Balderi, Alberto Antonietti, Fulvio Pedrazzini, Davide Sortino, Claudia Vinay, Maurizio Grosso

Purpose: The present study was performed to analyze the midterm results (five consecutive patients, 2-year follow-up) of the endovascular management of visceral artery aneurysms using the Cardiatis Multilayer Flow Modulator (CMFM) (Cardiatis, Isnes, Belgium), a self-expandable stent.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Endovascular Treatment of Active Splenic Bleeding After Colonoscopy: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Antonella Corcillo, Steve Aellen, Tobias Zingg, Pierre Bize, Nicolas Demartines, Alban Denys

Purpose: Colonoscopy is reported to be a safe procedure that is routinely performed for the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal diseases. Splenic rupture is considered to be a rare complication with high mortality and morbidity that requires immediate diagnosis and management. Nonoperative management (NOM), surgical treatment (ST), and, more recently, proximal splenic artery embolization (PSAE) have been proposed as treatment options. The goal of this study was to assess whether PSAE is safe even in high-grade ruptures.

RADIOLOGY. Axillary Lymph Node Biopsy in Newly Diagnosed Invasive Breast Cancer: Comparative Accuracy of Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy versus Core-Needle Biopsy

Suvi Rautiainen, MD, Amro Masarwah, MD, Mazen Sudah, MD, Anna Sutela, MD, PhD, Outi Pelkonen, MD, PhD, Sarianna Joukainen, MD, Reijo Sironen, MD, PhD, Vesa Kärjä, MD, PhD and Ritva Vanninen, MD, PhD

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonographically (US)-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and core-needle biopsy (CNB) of the axillary lymph nodes (LNs) of patients with newly diagnosed invasive breast cancer.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. MRI Assessment of Uterine Artery Patency and Fibroid Infarction Rates 6 Months after Uterine Artery Embolization with Nonspherical Polyvinyl Alcohol

Raj Das, Michael Gonsalves, Ioannis Vlahos, Issac Manyonda, Anna-Maria Belli

Purpose: We have observed significant rates of uterine artery patency after uterine artery embolization (UAE) with nonspherical polyvinyl alcohol (nsPVA) on 6 month follow-up MR scanning. The study aim was to quantitatively assess uterine artery patency after UAE with nsPVA and to assess the effect of continued uterine artery patency on outcomes.

RADIOLOGY. Real-time Contrast-enhanced Transrectal US-guided Prostate Biopsy: Diagnostic Accuracy in Men with Previously Negative Biopsy Results and Positive MR Imaging Findings

François Cornelis, MD, Gérald Rigou, MD, Yann Le Bras, MD, Xavier Coutouly, MD, Regis Hubrecht, MD, Mokrane Yacoub, MD, Gilles Pasticier, MD, Grégoire Robert, MD, PhD and Nicolas Grenier, MD

Purpose: To retrospectively evaluate diagnostic accuracy of real-time contrast material–enhanced (CE) ultrasonography (US) transrectal US-guided biopsies in patients with persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, previous negative systematic transrectal US-guided biopsy results, and positive prostate multiparametric magnetic resonance (MR) findings.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Portal Vein Embolization before Right Hepatectomy: Improved Results Using n-Butyl-Cyanoacrylate Compared to Microparticles Plus Coils

Boris Guiu, Pierre Bize, Daniel Gunthern, Nicolas Demartines, Nermin Halkic, Alban Denys

Background: There is currently no consensus in the literature on which embolic agent induces the greatest degree of liver hypertrophy after portal vein embolization (PVE). Only experimental results in a pig model have demonstrated an advantage of n-butyl-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) over 3 other embolic materials (hydrophilic gel, small and large polyvinyl alcohol particles) for PVE. Therefore, the aim of this human study was to retrospectively compare the results of PVE using NBCA with those using spherical microparticles plus coils.
