JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Comparative study between doxorubicin-eluting beads and conventional transarterial chemoembolization for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma

Myeong Jun Song , Ho Jong Chun , Do Seon Song , Hee Yeon Kim , Sun Hong Yoo , Chung-Hwa Park , Si Hyun Bae , Jong Young Choi , U Im Chang , Jin Mo Yang , Hae Giu Lee , Seung Kew Yoon

Background & Aims: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a widely used treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma. In order to maximize its therapeutic efficacy, doxorubicin-loaded drug-eluting beads have been developed to deliver higher doses of the chemotherapeutic agent and to prolong contact time with the tumor. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of drug-eluting bead (DC bead®) TACE in comparison with conventional TACE (cTACE).

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF RADIOLOGY. Computed tomography hepatic arteriography has a hepatic falciform artery detection rate that is much higher than that of digital subtraction angiography and 99mTc-MAA SPECT/CT: Implications for planning 90Y radioembolization?

M.C. Burgmans , C.W. Too , Y.H. Kao , A.S.W. Goh , P.K.H. Chow , B.S. Tan , K.H. Tay , R.H.G. Lo

Purpose: To compare the hepatic falciform artery (HFA) detection rates of digital subtraction angiography (DSA), computed tomography hepatic arteriography (CTHA) and 99mTc-macroaggregated albumin (99mTc-MAA) single photon emission computed tomography with integrated CT (SPECT/CT) and to correlate HFA patency with complication rates of yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. The Effects of Metallic Implants on Electroporation Therapies: Feasibility of Irreversible Electroporation for Brachytherapy Salvage

Robert E. Neal II, Ryan L. Smith, Helen Kavnoudias, Franklin Rosenfeldt, Ruchong Ou, Catriona A. Mclean, Rafael V. Davalos, Kenneth R. Thomson

Purpose: Electroporation-based therapies deliver brief electric pulses into a targeted volume to destabilize cellular membranes. Nonthermal irreversible electroporation (IRE) provides focal ablation with effects dependent on the electric field distribution, which changes in heterogeneous environments. It should be determined if highly conductive metallic implants in targeted regions, such as radiotherapy brachytherapy seeds in prostate tissue, will alter treatment outcomes. Theoretical and experimental models determine the impact of prostate brachytherapy seeds on IRE treatments.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Characterizing Cardiopulmonary Arrest during Interventional Radiology Procedures

George Richard Rueb, MD , William J. Brady, MD , Charles A. Gilliland, MD , James T. Patrie, MS , Wael E. Saad, MD , Saher S. Sabri, MD , Auh W. Park, MD , James R. Stone, MD, PhD , John F. Angle, MD

Purpose: Careful case selection and preparation can prevent most cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) in the interventional radiology (IR) suite. A series of CPAs was analyzed to provide insight into risk factors for these events.

Objectives: This study sought to investigate the effect of renal denervation (RDN) in patients with treatment-resistant hypertension according to the established definition (Joint National Committee VII and European Society of Hypertension/European Society of Cardiology guidelines), that is, office blood pressure (BP) ≥140/90 mm Hg (with at least three antihypertensive drugs, including a diuretic, in adequate doses) and confirmed by 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM).

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Excimer Laser–Assisted Removal of Embedded Inferior Vena Cava Filters. A Single-Center Prospective Study

William T. Kuo, MD, Justin I. Odegaard, MD, Jarrett K. Rosenberg, PhD and Lawrence V. Hofmann, MD

Background—Although chronically implanted inferior vena cava filters may result in filter-related morbidity, there is currently no routine option for removing such filters when they become firmly embedded along the vena cava endothelium.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Does Polyvinyl Alcohol Particle Size Change the Outcome of Prostatic Arterial Embolization for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia? Results from a Single-Center Randomized Prospective Study

Tiago Bilhim, MD, PhD , João Pisco, MD, PhD , Luís Campos Pinheiro, MD, PhD , Hugo Rio Tinto, MD , Lúcia Fernandes, MD , José A. Pereira, MD , Marisa Duarte, MD , António G. Oliveira, MD, PhD

Purpose: To evaluate whether different polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particle sizes change the outcome of prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Flow Reversal Versus Filter Protection. A Pilot Carotid Artery Stenting Randomized Trial

Luis Henrique de Castro-Afonso, MD, Lucas Giansante Abud, MD, Jaicer Gonçalves Rolo, MD, Antônio Carlos dos Santos, MD, PhD, Lívia de Oliveira, MD, Clara Monteiro Antunes Barreira, MD, Tonicarlo Rodrigues Velasco, MD, PhD, Octávio Marques Pontes-Neto, MD, PhD and Daniel Giansante Abud, MD, PhD

Background—Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has become an alternative treatment for patients presenting symptomatic carotid artery stenosis. The improvement in clinical outcomes with CAS has been associated with the development of embolic protection devices. The trial aim is to compare flow reversal versus filter protection during CAS through femoral access.

JACC: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Does the Presence of Accessory Renal Arteries Affect the Efficacy of Renal Denervation?

Dani Id, MD∗; Benjamin Kaltenbach∗; Stefan C. Bertog, MD∗; Marius Hornung, MD∗; Ilona Hofmann, MD∗; Laura Vaskelyte, MD∗; Horst Sievert, MD∗

Objectives: This study sought to assess the efficacy of catheter-based renal sympathetic denervation in patients with accessory renal arteries and to compare the blood pressure (BP)-lowering effect with that observed in patients with bilateral single renal arteries after renal denervation.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Angiographic C-Arm CT– Versus MDCT-Guided Stereotactic Punctures of Liver Lesions: Nonrigid Phantom Study

Gerlig Widmann, Daphné Wallach, Grzegorz Toporek, Peter Schullian, Stefan Weber and Reto Bale

OBJECTIVE. Angiographic C-arm CT may allow performing percutaneous stereotactic tumor ablations in the interventional radiology suite. Our purpose was to evaluate the accuracy of using C-arm CT for single and multimodality image fusions and to compare the targeting accuracy of liver lesions with the reference standard of MDCT.
