WORLD JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY. Radiofrequency ablation for hepatic hemangiomas: A consensus from a Chinese panel of experts

Jun Gao, Rui-Fang Fan, Jia-Yin Yang, Yan Cui, Jian-Song Ji, Kuan-Sheng Ma, Xiao-Long Li, Long Zhang, Chong-Liang Xu, Xin-Liang Kong, Shan Ke, Xue-Mei Ding, Shao-Hong Wang, Meng-Meng Yang, Jin-Jin Song, Bo Zhai, Chun-Ming Nin, Shi-Gang Guo, Zong-Hai Xin, Jun Lu, Yong-Hong Dong, Hua-Qiang Zhu, Wen-Bing Sun

Recent studies have shown that radiofrequency (RF) ablation therapy is a safe, feasible, and effective procedure for hepatic hemangiomas, even huge hepatic hemangiomas. RF ablation has the following advantages in the treatment of hepatic hemangiomas: minimal invasiveness, definite efficacy, high safety, fast recovery, relatively simple operation, and wide applicability. It is necessary to formulate a widely accepted consensus among the experts in China who have extensive expertise and experience in the treatment of hepatic hemangiomas using RF ablation, which is important to standardize the application of RF ablation for the management of hepatic hemangiomas, regarding the selection of patients with suitable indications to receive RF ablation treatment, the technical details of the techniques, therapeutic effect evaluations, management of complications, etc. A final consensus by a Chinese panel of experts who have the expertise of using RF ablation to treat hepatic hemangiomas was reached by means of literature review, comprehensive discussion, and draft approval.

WORLD JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY. Short- and long-term results of endoscopic ultrasound-guided transmural drainage for pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis

Yuto Watanabe, Rintaro Mikata, Shin Yasui, Hiroshi Ohyama, Harutoshi Sugiyama, Yuji Sakai, Toshio Tsuyuguchi, Naoya Kato

AIM: To evaluate the short- and long-term results of endoscopic ultrasound-guided transmural drainage (EUS-GTD) for pancreatic fluid collection (PFC) and identify the predictive factors of treatment outcome for walled-off necrosis (WON) managed by EUS-GTD alone.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Impact of Chronic Renal Failure on Safety and Effectiveness of Paclitaxel-Eluting Stents for Femoropopliteal Artery Disease: Subgroup Analysis from Zilver PTX Post-Market Surveillance Study in Japan

Yukihisa Ogawa, Hiroyoshi Yokoi, Takao Ohki, Kimihiko Kichikawa, Masato Nakamura, Kimihiro Komori, Shinsuke Nanto, Erin E. O’Leary, Aaron E. Lottes, Alan T. Saunders, Michael D. Dake

Purpose: Favorable long-term outcomes of the Zilver PTX drug-eluting stent (DES) in femoropopliteal lesions have been demonstrated. Chronic renal failure (CRF) has been shown to be a risk factor for restenosis and decreased limb salvage. The results of the DES in patients with CRF have not previously been reported. This study compares the results with the DES in patients with CRF and those without CRF.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Personalized Feedback on Staff Dose in Fluoroscopy-Guided Interventions: A New Era in Radiation Dose Monitoring

Anna M. Sailer, Laura Vergoossen, Leonie Paulis, Willem H. van Zwam, Marco Das, Joachim E. Wildberger, Cécile R. L. P. N. Jeukens

Purpose: Radiation safety and protection are a key component of fluoroscopy-guided interventions. We hypothesize that providing weekly personal dose feedback will increase radiation awareness and ultimately will lead to optimized behavior. Therefore, we designed and implemented a personalized feedback of procedure and personal doses for medical staff involved in fluoroscopy-guided interventions.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Percutaneous Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty: Current Status, New Developments and Old Controversies

Dimitrios K. Filippiadis, Stefano Marcia, Salvatore Masala, Frederic Deschamps, Alexis Kelekis

Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are minimally invasive techniques applied for the treatment of vertebral fractures. Since not all vertebral compression fractures are the same, a tailored-based approach is necessary for optimum efficacy and safety results. Nowadays, different cements and materials are proposed as alternatives to the original poly-methylmethacrylate aiming to overcome the limitations and the risks governing its use. Both techniques are governed by high efficacy and low complication rates; multilevel treatment in a single session has been shown to be feasible with no compromise of the technique’s safety and efficacy. The purpose of this article is to describe the basic concepts of spinal augmentation by means of vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. The current status and future of cements used will be defined. Controversies upon issues concerning both techniques will be addressed. Finally, the necessity for a tailored-based approach applying different techniques for different fractures will be addressed.
