AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. A Pilot Study of Ultrasound-Guided Cryoablation of Invasive Ductal Carcinomas up to 15 mm With MRI Follow-Up and Subsequent Surgical Resection

Steven P. Poplack, Gary M. Levine, Lisa Henry, Wendy A. Wells, F. Scott Heinemann, Cheryl M. Hanna, Daniel R. Deneen, Tor D. Tosteson and Richard J. Barth Jr.

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided cryoablation in treating small invasive ductal carcinoma and to assess the role of contrast-enhanced (CE) MRI in determining the outcome of cryoablation.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Ureteroarterial Fistula: Diagnosis and Management

Anil Kumar Pillai, Matthew E. Anderson, Mark A. Reddick, Patrick D. Sutphin and Sanjeeva P. Kalva

OBJECTIVE. Ureteroarterial fistula (UAF) is an uncommon condition with only approximately 150 cases reported in the literature. Patients typically present with hematuria in the setting of prolonged ureteral stenting, prior pelvic surgery, malignancy, or radiation. Presentation can vary from intermittent hematuria to life-threatening hemorrhagic shock.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Society of Interventional Radiology IR Pre-Procedure Patient Safety Checklist by the Safety and Health Committee

Poyan Rafiei, MD, Eric M. Walser, MD, James R. Duncan, MD, PhD, Hunaid Rana, BS, Jason Robert Ross, MD, Robert K. Kerlan Jr, MD, Kathleen A. Gross, MSN, BS, RN-BC, CRN, Stephen Balter, PhD, Gabriel Bartal, MD, Nadine Abi-Jaoudeh, MD, CCRP, Michael S. Stecker, MD, Alan M. Cohen, MD, Robert G. Dixon, MD, Raymond H. Thornton, MD, Boris Nikolic, MD, MBA

The National Patient Safety Goals program was established by The Joint Commission in 2002 to help accredited organizations address areas of concern regarding patient safety in the United States. The Universal Protocol, adopted by The Joint Commission in 2003, is included in the National Patient Safety Goals to prevent wrong person, wrong procedure, and wrong site surgery in all surgical and nonsurgical invasive procedures. These guidelines have been applied specifically to the practice of interventional radiology (IR); however, a pre–procedure checklist tailored to IR may further improve patient safety and outcomes.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Revenue Potential for Inpatient IR Consultation Services: A Financial Model

Alexander S. Misono, MD, MBA, Peter R. Mueller, MD, Joshua A. Hirsch, MD, Robert M. Sheridan, RTR, Assad U. Siddiqi, MBA, Raymond W. Liu, MD

Purpose: Interventional radiology (IR) has historically failed to fully capture the value of evaluation and management services in the inpatient setting. Understanding financial benefits of a formally incorporated billing discipline may yield meaningful insights for interventional practices.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Preliminary Outcome of Microwave Ablation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Breaking the 3-cm Barrier?

Somrach Thamtorawat, MD, Robert M. Hicks, MD, Jenifer Yu, BS, Surachate Siripongsakun, MD, Wei-Chan Lin, MD, Steven S. Raman, MD, Justin P. McWilliams, MD, Michael Douek, MD, Simin Bahrami, MD, David S.K. Lu, MD

Purpose: To evaluate preliminary outcomes after microwave ablation (MWA) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) up to 5 cm and to determine the influence of tumor size.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Society of Interventional Radiology Position Statement: Staffing Guidelines for the Interventional Radiology Suite

Mark O. Baerlocher, MD, Sean A. Kennedy, MD, Thomas J. Ward, MD, Boris Nikolic, MD, MBA, Curtis W. Bakal, MD, MPH, Curtis A. Lewis, MD, MBA, JD, Adam B. Winick, MD, Gerald A. Niedzwiecki, MD, Ziv J Haskal, MD, Alan H. Matsumoto, MD

Although the risk of adverse events from image-guided and interventional radiologic procedures is low, adverse events do occur, and there is evidence that inadequate resources and staffing can be associated with poorer outcomes

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Radiation Dose Reduction in CT Fluoroscopy-Guided Cervical Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection by Modifying Scout and Planning Steps

Nam Chull Paik

Background and Purpose: In CT fluoroscopy (CTF)-guided cervical transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI), the majority of radiation dose is contributed by the planning CT scan rather than the CTF procedure itself. We replaced the planning helical CT with a spot CTF and accordingly changed the patient posture during scout and planning scans. The aim of this study was to test whether radiation dose reduction would be achieved by this protocol modification while still maintaining technical performance.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Stentgraft Implantation for the Treatment of Postoperative Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm

F. Pedersoli, P. Isfort, S. Keil, F. Goerg, M. Zimmermann, M. Liebl, M. Schulze-Hagen, M. Schmeding, C. K. Kuhl, P. Bruners

Purpose: Hepatic artery pseudoaneurysms are a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of major pancreaticobiliary surgery. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of endovascular stentgraft implantation for the management of such vascular lesions.
