AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Balloon-Occluded Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration for the Treatment of Gastric Varices: Polidocanol Foam Versus Liquid Ethanolamine Oleate

Chihiro Itou, Jun Koizumi, Takeshi Hashimoto, Kazunori Myojin, Tatehiro Kagawa, Tetsuya Mine and Yutaka Imai

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical results of the management of gastric varices by balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration with polidocanol foam versus ethanolamine oleate.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Vascular Imaging With Ferumoxytol as a Contrast Agent

Michael D. Hope, Thomas A. Hope, Chengcheng Zhu, Farshid Faraji, Henrik Haraldsson, Karen G. Ordovas and David Saloner

OBJECTIVE. Ferumoxytol is increasingly reported as an alternative to gadolinium-based contrast agents for MR angiography (MRA), particularly for patients with renal failure. This article summarizes more than 3 years of clinical experience with ferumoxytol-enhanced MRA for a range of indications and anatomic regions.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Use of Imaging in the Management of Metastatic Spine Disease With Percutaneous Ablation and Vertebral Augmentation

Adam N. Wallace, Taylor J. Greenwood and Jack W. Jennings

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this article is to describe the role of imaging in the management of metastatic spine disease with percutaneous ablation and vertebral augmentation. Topics include the imaging diagnosis of spinal metastases, imaging factors related to patient selection and procedural planning, intraprocedural imaging guidance, and posttreatment imaging assessment.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Management of Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Medications in Adults Undergoing Percutaneous Interventions

Tracy A. Jaffe, Doug Raiff, Lisa M. Ho and Charles Y. Kim

OBJECTIVE. Many radiologists are unfamiliar with the new antithrombogenic medications and how to modify patient management before nonvascular percutaneous procedures performed in a radiology department. In this article, we review the indications for use, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, dosing, and recommendations for periprocedural management of patients using these medications.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Hepatic radioembolization from transradial access: initial experience and comparison to transfemoral access

Bela Kis, Matthew Mills, Sarah E. Hoffe

PURPOSE: Despite the growing evidence in the cardiology literature that transradial approach has substantial benefits over transfemoral access, this technique is rarely used during interventions in the systemic circulation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of transradial approach for hepatic radioembolization and to compare it with transfemoral approach.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Inferior vena cava filter insertion through the popliteal vein: enabling the percutaneous endovenous intervention of deep vein thrombosis with a single venous access approach in a single session

Hyoung Ook Kim, Jae Kyu Kim, Jin Gyoon Park, Nam Yeol Yim, Yang Jun Kang, Hye Doo Jung

PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate the efficiency of placing an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter through the same popliteal vein access site used for percutaneous endovenous intervention in patients with extensive lower extremity deep vein thrombosis.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Günther Tulip inferior vena cava filter retrieval using a bidirectional loop-snare technique

Jordan Ross, Stephen Allison, Sandeep Vaidya, Eric Monroe

Many advanced techniques have been reported in the literature for difficult Günther Tulip filter removal. This report describes a bidirectional loop-snare technique in the setting of a fibrin scar formation around the filter leg anchors. The bidirectional loop-snare technique allows for maximal axial tension and alignment for stripping fibrin scar from the filter legs, a commonly encountered complication of prolonged dwell times.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Endovascular occlusion of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations with the ArtVentive Endoluminal Occlusion System™

Fabio Corvino, Mattia Silvestre, Amedeo Cervo, Francesco Giurazza, Antonio Corvino, Franco Maglione

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are vascular anomalies of the lung and carry the risk of cerebral thromboembolism, brain abscess, or pulmonary hemorrhage. We describe a 64-year-old male with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome) who presented with a five-year history of progressive effort dyspnea and a PAVM in the right upper lobe successfully treated by transcatheter embolization of feeding arteries using a new occlusion device, the ArtVentive Endoluminal Occlusion System™.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Splenic artery embolization with Ankaferd blood stopper in a sheep model

Osman Koç, Kadir Acar, Orhan Özbek, İbrahim Güler, Kadir Sarıtaş, Tuba Bera Erdem, Yalçın Solak, Hatice Toy, Ahmet Küçükapan, Seda Özbek, Abduzhappar Gaipov, İbrahim C. Haznedaroğlu

PURPOSE: Splenic artery embolization is a minimally invasive therapeutic procedure utilized in a number of disorders. Ankaferd blood stopper (ABS) is a novel hemostatic agent with a new mechanism of action independent of clotting factors. We aimed to investigate the safety and efficiency of ABS for splenic artery embolization in a sheep model.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Persistence of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations after successful embolotherapy with Amplatzer vascular plug: long-term results

Ahmed Kamel Abdel-Aal, Rafik Mohamed Ibrahim, Amr Soliman Moustafa, Maysoon Farouk Hamed, Souheil Saddekni

PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate the frequency of persistence and complication rates of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) treated with Amplatzer vascular plug (AVP) or Amplatzer vascular plug type 2 (AVP2).
