DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Evaluation of CT vascularization patterns for survival prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated by conventional TACE

Davut B. Hasdemir, Lukas Aguirre Dávila, Nora Schweitzer, Bernhard C. Meyer, Armin Koch, Arndt Vogel, Frank Wacker, Thomas Rodt

PURPOSE: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is an established treatment for intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the power of lesion vascularization criteria based on computed tomography for prognosis of overall survival before initiation of treatment.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Use of transabdominal ultrasound-guided transjugular portal vein puncture on radiation dose in transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt formation

Aniket N. Tavare, Andrew Wigham, Anastasia Hadjivassilou, Abdulrahman Alvi, Anthie Papadopoulou, Antony Goode, Nick Woodward, David Patch, Dominic Yu, Neil Davies

PURPOSE: Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation is used to treat portal hypertension complications. Often the most challenging and time-consuming step in the procedure is the portal vein (PV) puncture. TIPS procedures are associated with prolonged fluoroscopy time and high patient radiation exposures. We measured the impact of transabdominal ultrasound guidance for PV puncture on duration of fluoroscopy time and dose.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. JOURNAL CLUB: Cancer Risks in U.S. Radiologic Technologists Working With Fluoroscopically Guided Interventional Procedures, 1994-2008

Preetha Rajaraman, Michele M. Doody, Chu Ling Yu, Dale L. Preston, Jeremy S. Miller, Alice J. Sigurdson, D. Michal Freedman, Bruce H. Alexander, Mark P. Little, Donald L. Miller and Martha S. Linet

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to examine risks of cancer incidence and mortality among U.S. radiation technologists performing or assisting with fluoroscopically guided interventional procedures.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Low-Flow Vascular Malformation Pitfalls: From Clinical Examination to Practical Imaging Evaluation—Part 1, Lymphatic Malformation Mimickers

Candace L. White, Brandon Olivieri, Ricardo Restrepo, Brett McKeon, S. Pinar Karakas and Edward Y. Lee

OBJECTIVE. Palpable subcutaneous masses present in various shapes and sizes in the pediatric population and, accordingly, represent a variety of underlying causes. Lymphatic and venous malformations are among the most common pediatric subcutaneous lesions. However, there are congenital and acquired, as well as benign and malignant, soft-tissue masses that can mimic them clinically and at imaging.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Low-Flow Vascular Malformation Pitfalls: From Clinical Examination to Practical Imaging Evaluation—Part 2, Venous Malformation Mimickers

Brandon Olivieri, Candace L. White, Ricardo Restrepo, Brett McKeon, S. Pinar Karakas and Edward Y. Lee

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this article is to review the unusual clinical and radiographic features of venous malformations that can give rise to diagnostic confusion. Entities that can have overlapping clinical and imaging features with venous malformations are also reviewed.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Safety and Outcomes of Percutaneous Biopsy of 61 Hepatic Adenomas

Derrick A. Doolittle, Thomas D. Atwell, William Sanchez, Taofic Mounajjed, David M. Hough, Grant D. Schmit and A. Nicholas Kurup

OBJECTIVE. Given the recent classification of hepatic adenoma (HA) into subtypes and recognition of imperfect specificity of MRI to differentiate HA from focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), there is a resurgent interest in the role of biopsy to diagnose HA. The purpose of this study was to determine the safety and outcomes of biopsy of HAs.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Repeat Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration for Thyroid Nodules 10 mm or Larger Can Be Performed 10.7 Months After Initial Nondiagnostic Results

Hee Jung Moon, Eun-Kyung Kim, Jin Young Kwak and Jung Hyun Yoon

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study is to investigate when repeat ultrasound (US)–guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) for thyroid nodules 10 mm or larger with initial nondiagnostic results due to inadequate or unsatisfactory specimen could be performed.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Incidence of Contrast-Induced Nephropathy After Renal Graft Catheter Arteriography Using Iodine-Based Contrast Medium

Ghaneh Fananapazir, Christoph Troppmann, Michael T. Corwin, Chris K. Bent, Catherine T. Vu and Ramit Lamba

OBJECTIVE. The objective of our study was to assess the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), dialysis, and graft loss after direct intraarterial infusion of iodine-based contrast medium (CM) in renal allograft recipients.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Transcatheter Arterial Embolization of Gastrointestinal Bleeding with N-Butyl Cyanoacrylate: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Safety and Efficacy

Pyeong Hwa Kim, MD, Jiaywei Tsauo, MD, Ji Hoon Shin, MD, Sung-Cheol Yun, PhD

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization with N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) for the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding via a meta-analysis of published studies.
