CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Recanalization of Acute and Subacute Venous and Synthetic Bypass-Graft Occlusions With a Mechanical Rotational Catheter

Christian Wissgott, Peter Kamusella, Reimer Andresen

Purpose: Percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy (PMT) is now established as an alternative treatment of acute arterial occlusions in addition to fibrinolysis and surgical thrombectomy. The objective of this retrospective study was the investigation of a rotational atherothrombectomy catheter in terms of safety and efficacy in the treatment of acute and subacute femoropopliteal bypass occlusions.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Subintimal Recanalization of Occluded Stents: The Substent Technique

Athanasios Diamantopoulos, Konstantinos Katsanos, Stavros Spiliopoulos, Dimitris Karnabatidis, Dimitris Siablis

Purpose: Application of metal stents is complicated by neointimal hyperplasia leading to vessel restenosis and reocclusion. Treatment options in cases presenting with complete occlusion of the stented segment and recurrent critical limb ischemia (CLI) are limited. We present the option of the subintimal/substent technique in dealing with occluded stents.

CIRCULATION. Cilostazol Reduces Angiographic Restenosis After Endovascular Therapy for Femoropopliteal Lesions in the Sufficient Treatment of Peripheral Intervention by Cilostazol Study

Osamu Iida, MD; Hiroyoshi Yokoi, MD; Yoshimitsu Soga, MD; Naoto Inoue, MD; Kenji Suzuki, MD; Yoshiaki Yokoi, MD, PhD; Daizo Kawasaki, MD, PhD; Kan Zen, MD, PhD; Kazushi Urasawa, MD, PhD; Yoshiaki Shintani, MD; Akira Miyamoto, MD; Keisuke Hirano, MD; Yusuke Miyashita, MD, PhD; Taketsugu Tsuchiya, MD, PhD; Norihiko Shinozaki, MD; Masato Nakamura, MD, PhD; Takaaki Isshiki, MD, PhD; Toshimitsu Hamasaki, MSc, PhD; Shinsuke Nanto, MD, PhD; on behalf of the STOP-IC investigators

Background—It remains unclear whether cilostazol, which has been shown to improve the clinical outcomes of endovascular therapy for femoropopliteal lesions, also reduces angiographic restenosis.

JOURNAL OF ENDOVASCULAR THERAPY. Analysis of Effects of Fixation Type on Renal Function After Endovascular Aneurysm Repair

George N. Kouvelos , MD; Ioannis Boletis , MD; Nektario Papa , MD; Amalia Kallinteri , MD; Michalis Peroulis , MD; and Miltiadis I. Matsagkas , MD, PhD, EBSQ-Vasc

Purpose: To report a prospective nonrandomized study comparing the effects of suprarenal (SR) vs. infrarenal (IR) stent-graft fixation on renal function in patients undergoing endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Low incidence of paraplegia after thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair with proactive spinal cord protective protocols

Joseph L. Bobadilla, MD , Martha Wynn, MD , Girma Tefera, MD , C.W. Acher, MD

Objective: Paraparesis and paraplegia after thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR) is a greatly feared complication. Multiple case series report this risk up to 13% with no, or inconsistent, application of interventions to enhance and protect spinal cord perfusion. In this study, we report our single-institution experience of TEVAR, using the same proactive spinal cord ischemia protection protocol we use for open repair.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Favorable discharge disposition and survival after successful endovascular repair of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm

Gabriel A. Wallace, MD , Benjamin W. Starnes, MD , Thomas S. Hatsukami, MD , Elina Quiroga, MD , Gale L. Tang, MD , Ted R. Kohler, MD , Nam T. Tran, MD

Objective: Endovascular repair of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rEVAR) has been shown to improve perioperative outcomes compared with open surgical repair (OSR). Follow-up of these patients, however, is lacking. In this study, we compare the discharge disposition and midterm survival of ruptured aneurysm patients who survived treatment with either rEVAR or OSR.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Subintimal Angioplasty of Long Chronic Total Femoropopliteal Occlusions: Long-Term Outcomes, Predictors of Angiographic Restenosis, and Role of Stenting

Dimitris Siablis, Athanasios Diamantopoulos, Konstantinos Katsanos, Stavros Spiliopoulos, George C. Kagadis, Spyros Papadoulas, Dimitris Karnabatidis

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to report the results of a prospective single-center study analyzing the long-term clinical and angiographic outcomes of subintimal angioplasty (SIA) for the treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTOs) of the femoropopliteal artery.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Outcomes of endovascular interventions for salvage of renal transplant allografts

Shipra Arya, MD, SM , Dawn M. Coleman, MD , Nicholas H. Osborne, MD, MS , Michael Englesbe, MD , Eva Rzucidlo, MD , Peter K. Henke, MD , John E. Rectenwald, MD, MS , Katherine A. Gallagher, MD

Introduction: Renal transplantation has been performed with increasing frequency, and interventions to preserve graft function and integrity have been steadily increasing. This study examines the outcomes of endovascular therapy based on indication for renal transplant allograft salvage.

RADIOLOGY. Preoperative Planning for Endovascular Aortic Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: Feasibility of Nonenhanced MR Angiography versus Contrast-enhanced CT Angiography

Satoshi Goshima, MD, PhD, Masayuki Kanematsu, MD, Hiroshi Kondo, MD, Hiroshi Kawada, MD, Toshihisa Kojima, MD, Kota Sakurai, MD, Haruo Watanabe, MD, Katsuya Shimabukuro, MD, PhD, Yukihiro Matsuno, MD, PhD, Narihiro Ishida, MD, PhD, Hirofumi Takemura, MD, PhD and Kyongtae T. Bae, MD, PhD

Purpose: To compare vascular measurements to determine stent types and configurations for abdominal endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) by comparing results of contrast material–enhanced computed tomographic (CT) angiography and nonenhanced magnetic resonance (MR) angiography.
