MAQUET Cardiovascular, LLC announced today that it has received CE mark for its INTERGARD SYNERGY vascular graft. This graft represents the next generation in antimicrobial grafts combining the well-known antimicrobial properties of silver acetate and triclosan. The INTERGARD SYNERGY graft will be commercially available immediately within countries that recognize the CE mark.
Avinger has announced that it has successfully completed enrolment in its CONNECT II global clinical trial. A study focused on treatment of peripheral artery disease. CONNECT II is a prospective, multicentre, non-randomised global clinical study that evaluated 100 peripheral artery disease patients with femoropopliteal chronic total occlusion lesions at 15 hospital and clinic sites, including two in the European Union.
Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (CSI) (Nasdaq: CSII), shared 12-month data from the COMPLIANCE 360 study of severely calcified above-the-knee lesions at the New Cardiovascular Horizons Annual Conference on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Dr. Barry Weinstock, Interventional Cardiologist, Orlando Regional Medical Center, Winter Park, Fla., presented data demonstrating positive outcomes and cost comparisons to the widely used percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA).
In its first human trial, the mechanochemical ablation (MOCA) catheter was efficacious at two years as current endothermal techniques, but without the need of tumescent anesthesia. In addition, MOCA was more effective than results of foam sclerotherapy of the great saphenous vein (GSV) and is another alternative modality for most incompetent GSV s and small saphenous veins (SSV s). Detailed results were presented today at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery®.
Lombard today announced the high angle clinical data results from the US PYTHAGORAS trial of its endovascular stent graft Aorfix. Data suggest that Aorfix has the potential to provide a less invasive treatment option for abdominal aortic aneurysm patients with highly angulated neck anatomy.
Researchers from Stanford University s Goodman Simulation Center in the Department of Surgery in Palo Alto, CA, revealed the results of endovascular skills training provided to their surgical residents today at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery®.
While carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is performed to prevent stroke, long-term survival is essential to ensure benefit, especially in asymptomatic patients. A new study presented at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery® today examined patient factors associated with 5-year survival following CEA in patients with asymptomatic internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis.
A new study, presented at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) reviewed data on the influence of contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO) on carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) for which there is a paucity of conflicting data.
Heart surgery patients can considerably reduce their risk of developing post-operative acute renal failure by taking aspirin for five days before undergoing surgery.
For patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis, endarterectomy has the greatest benefit compared with stenting among patients treated within 7 days of the most recent event, researchers found. The rate of any stroke or death within 30 days of the procedure was significantly higher for stenting than for surgery, regardless of the time since the latest event (7.7% versus 3.8%), according to Gustav Fraedrich, MD, of Innsbruck Medical University in Austria.
Branches following complex aortic aneurysm repair appear to be durable and are rarely the cause of patient death following complex aortic aneurysm repair according to a study presented at the 66th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery®.
At two years, mechanochemical ablation (MOCA) is as efficacious as current endothermal techniques without the need of tumescent anaesthesia and is more effective than reported results of foam sclerotherapy of the great saphenous vein. Steve Elias, who presented the first-in-man two-year results with the technique at the Vascular Annual Meeting (Washington DC, USA,7–9 June 2012), said that MOCA is another alternative modality for most incompetent great and small saphenous veins.
Vascular News has heard from Cook Medical that on Wednesday 6 June, it received the CE mark for the world’s first off-the-shelf thoracoabdominal stent graft, the Zenith t-Branch Thoracoabdominal Endovascular Graft.
Medtronic, Inc. has announced the U.S. launch of the Endurant® II AAA Stent Graft System, which recently received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the minimally invasive treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms through endovascular repair (EVAR), an alternative to major surgery. The Endurant II AAA System will be showcased at the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Annual Meeting, June 7–9 at National Harbor, Md., near Washington, D.C. Clinical performance updates on Medtronic s entire portfolio of aortic stent grafts will also be presented at the meeting.
