JACC. Aspirin Treatment and Outcomes After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Katharina Mayer, MD∗; Isabell Bernlochner, MD†; Siegmund Braun, MD∗; Stefanie Schulz, MD∗; Martin Orban, MD‡; Tanja Morath, MD∗; Lisena Cala, MS∗; Petra Hoppmann, MD†; Heribert Schunkert, MD∗; Karl-Ludwig Laugwitz, MD†; Adnan Kastrati, MD∗; Dirk Sibbing, MD‡

Background_ Aspirin administration, as part of a dual antiplatelet treatment regimen, is essential for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although the correlation between high on-clopidogrel treatment platelet reactivity (HCPR) and clinical outcome is well established, data for high on-aspirin treatment platelet reactivity (HAPR) are conflicting.

JACC. Prognostic Value of Site SYNTAX Score and Rationale for Combining Anatomic and Clinical Factors in Decision Making

Yao-Jun Zhang, PhD∗; Javaid Iqbal, MRCP, PhD∗; Carlos M. Campos, MD∗; David V. Klaveren, MSc‡; Christos V. Bourantas, MD∗; Keith D. Dawkins, MD§; Adrian P. Banning, MD‖; Javier Escaned, MD, PhD¶; Ton de Vries, MSc#; Marie-Angèle Morel, BSc#; Vasim Farooq, MD∗; Yoshinobu Onuma, MD∗; Hector M. Garcia-Garcia, MD, PhD∗; Gregg W. Stone, MD∗∗; Ewout W. Steyerberg, PhD‡; Friedrich W. Mohr, MD††; Patrick W. Serruys, MD, PhD∗

Background: The results of SYNTAX trial have been reported based on “corelab” calculated SS (cSS). It has been shown that reproducibility of SS is better among the core laboratory technicians than interventional cardiologists. Thus, the prognostic value and clinical implication of the “site” SYNTAX SS (sSS) remain unknown.

Sudhakar George, MD∗; James Cockburn, MD∗; Tim C. Clayton, MSc†; Peter Ludman, MD‡; James Cotton, MD§; James Spratt, MA‖; Simon Redwood, MD#; Mark de Belder, MD¶; Adam de Belder, MD∗; Jonathan Hill, MA∗∗; Angela Hoye, MBChB, PhD††; Nick Palmer, MD‡‡; Sudhir Rathore, MD§§; Anthony Gershlick, MB BS‖‖; Carlo Di Mario, MD, PhD##; David Hildick-Smith, MD∗

Background: Chronic total occlusion (CTO) is common, being reported in 18% to 30% of patients undergoing coronary angiography. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is usually performed to relieve anginal symptoms, but data are emerging to suggest that there may also be a mortality benefit.

AMERICAN HEART JOURNAL. Assessment of side branch predilation before a provisional T-stent strategy for bifurcation lesions. A randomized trial

Manuel Pan, MD, PhD, Alfonso Medina, MD, PhD, Miguel Romero, MD, PhD, Soledad Ojeda, MD, PhD, Pedro Martin, MD, PhD, Javier Suarez de Lezo, MD, PhD, Jose Segura, MD, PhD, Francisco Mazuelos, MD, PhD, Jose Novoa, MD, PhD, Jose Suarez de Lezo, MD, PhD

Background: A simple approach is the predominant strategy for the percutaneous coronary intervention of bifurcation lesions. Performing side branch (SB) predilation in this context is currently a matter of controversy. In this study, we assess the efficacy of SB predilatation before a provisional T-stent strategy for bifurcation lesions.

AMERICAN HEART JOURNAL. Differences in the outcome of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions at teaching versus non-teaching hospitals

Amneet Sandhu, MD, Mauro Moscucci, MD, MBA, Simon Dixon, MD, David H. Wohns, MD, David Share, MD, MPH, Thomas LaLonde, MD, Dean Smith, PhD, Hitinder S. Gurm, MBBS

Background: Teaching hospitals have superior outcomes for major medical conditions including cardiovascular disease compared to non-teaching hospitals. This may not be applicable to invasive cardiac procedures given a potential increase in complications due to trainee participation.
