CATHETERIZATION AND CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Presence of sigma shaped right coronary artery is an indicator of poor prognosis in patients with inferior myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention

Barış Güngör MD, Ahmet Taha Alper MD, Kazım Serhan Özcan MD*, Ahmet Ekmekçi MD, Fatma Özpamuk Karadeniz MD, Ferit Onur Mutluer MD, Adnan Kaya MD, Baran Karataş MD, Damirbek Osmonov MD andOsman Bolca MD

Background: The effectiveness of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is well established. The clinical variables associated with poor prognosis in patients with STEMI have been extensively investigated. Right coronary artery (RCA) has two anatomical variations detected on coronary angiography namely C-shaped and sigma shaped RCA. The clinical importance of the shape of RCA in patients with STEMI has not been investigated before.

CATHETERIZATION AND CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. The impact of the distance from the interventional cardiologist´s home to the hospital during off hours

Amir Lotfi MD*, Gaurav Alreja MD, Mohammad Amin Kashef MD, Gregory R. Giugliano MD, SM, Jane Garb MS andMarc Schweiger MD

Background: The importance of DTBT is highlighted by its inclusion as one of the core quality measures collected by the center for Medicare and Medicaid services and by the Joint commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations. We investigated the effect of time of day on the DTBT in patients having primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) and the impact of distance of the on call interventional cardiologist from the hospital on the DTBT and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients undergoing pPCI during the off hours

CATHETERIZATION AND CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Transfemoral implantation of Edwards Sapien XT aortic valve without previous valvuloplasty: Role of 2D/3D transesophageal echocardiography

Eulogio García MD1,2,*, Carlos Almería MD1, Leire Unzué MD2, Pilar Jiménez-Quevedo MD1, Ana Cuadrado MD1 andCarlos Macaya MD1

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty (BAV) has been considered a mandatory step before TAVI. However, it might be related to cerebrovascular microembolizations, atrioventricular conduction disturbances, and hemodynamic instability. The aim of this study is to describe transesophageal echocardiography characteristics of patients that could benefit from direct transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) of Edwards SAPIEN XT, without previous BAV.
