3-Year Outcomes After 2-Stent With Provisional Stenting for Complex Bifurcation Lesions Defined by DEFINITION Criteria

Jing Kan, Jun-Jie Zhang, Imad Sheiban, Teguh Santoso, Muhammad Munawar, Damras Tresukosol, Kai Xu, Gregg W. Stone, Shao-Liang Chen, and on behalf of the DEFINITION II Investigators

Background The multicenter and randomized DEFINITION II (Two-Stent vs Provisional Stenting Techniques for Patients With Complex Coronary Bifurcation Lesions) trial showed less 1-year target lesion failure (TLF) after a 2-stent approach for complex coronary bifurcation lesions compared with provisional stenting (PS). The authors report the 3-year clinical outcome of the DEFINITION II trial.

Ultrathin, Biodegradable-Polymer Sirolimus-Eluting Stent vs Thin, Durable-Polymer Everolimus-Eluting Stent

Masato Nakamura, Kazushige Kadota, Yoshihisa Nakagawa, Kengo Tanabe, Yoshiaki Ito, Tetsuya Amano, Yuichiro Maekawa, Akihiko Takahashi, Nobuo Shiode, Yoritaka Otsuka, Tomohiro Kawasaki, Yutaka Hikichi, Junya Shite, Ken Kozuma, Raisuke Iijima, Yoshitaka Murakami, and on behalf of the CASTLE Investigators

Background Previous trials suggested the superiority of ultrathin- over thin-strut drug-eluting stents (DES) concerning target lesion failure (TLF) at 1 year after index percutaneous coronary intervention.

Comparative Outcomes After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Unconscious and Conscious Patients With Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest

Alessandro Spirito, Athanasios Papadis, Lukas Vaisnora, Fortunato Iacovelli, Celestino Sardu, Raminta Kavaliauskaite, Jonas Lanz, Fabrice Temperli, Babken Asatryan, Dik Heg, Lukas Hunziker, Stephan Windecker, Lorenz Räber, and Marco Valgimigli

Background Up to 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients have a relevant coronary stenosis which may need revascularization. The short- and long-term ischemic and bleeding risk of unconscious and conscious OHCA patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is largely unknown

Transcatheter Coronary Sinus Interventions

Mohamad Alkhouli, Philipp Lurz, Josep Rodés-Cabau, Rajiv Gulati, Charanjit S. Rihal, Amir Lerman, and Azeem Latib

The coronary sinus has become a popular route for an increasing number of innovative transcatheter interventions to treat coronary and structural heart diseases. However, interventional cardiologists have limited experience with the cardiac venous system and its highly variable anatomy. In this paper, we review the anatomy of the cardiac veins as it relates to transcatheter interventions. We also provide a contemporary overview of the emerging coronary sinus–based transcatheter therapies and their growing literature.
