Eric Van Belle, MD, PhD; Françis Juthier, MD; Sophie Susen, MD, PhD; André Vincentelli, MD, PhD; Bernard Iung, MD; Jean Dallongeville, MD, PhD; Hélène Eltchaninoff, MD; Marc Laskar, MD; Pascal Leprince, MD; Michel Lievre, MD, PhD; Carlo Banfi, MD, PhD; Jean-Luc Auffray, MD; Cedric Delhaye, MD; Patrick Donzeau-Gouge, MD; Karine Chevreul, MD, PhD; Jean Fajadet, MD; Alain Leguerrier, MD; Alain Prat, MD; Martine Gilard, MD; Emmanuel Teiger, MD, PhD; for the FRANCE 2 Investigators

Background: Significant postprocedural aortic regurgitation (AR) is observed in 10% to 20% of cases after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The prognostic value and the predictors of such a complication in balloon-expandable (BE) and self-expandable (SE) TAVR remain unclear.

CIRCULATION. Epidemiology and Prevention. Increased Risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction and Stroke During Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome. A Self-Controlled Case Series Study

Anne-Marie Connolly-Andersen, PhD; Edvin Hammargren, MD; Heather Whitaker, PhD; Mats Eliasson, Prof; Lars Holmgren, MPH; Jonas Klingström, PhD; Clas Ahlm, Prof

Background: We recently observed that cardiovascular causes of death are common in patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), which is caused by hantaviruses. However, it is not known whether HFRS is a risk factor for the acute cardiovascular events of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and stroke.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Coronary Interventions. Incomplete Stent Apposition Causes High Shear Flow Disturbances and Delay in Neointimal Coverage as a Function of Strut to Wall Detachment Distance. Implications for the Management of Incomplete Stent Apposition

Nicolas Foin, MSc, PhD*, Juan Luis Gutiérrez-Chico, MD, PhD*, Shimpei Nakatani, MD*, Ryo Torii, MSc, PhD*, Christos V. Bourantas, MD, PhD, Sayan Sen, MD, PhD, Sukhjinder Nijjer, MD, Ricardo Petraco, MD, Chrysa Kousera, MSc, Matteo Ghione, MD, Yoshinobu Onuma, MD, Hector M. Garcia-Garcia, MD, PhD, Darrel P. Francis, MD, PhD, Philip Wong, MD, Carlo Di Mario, MD, PhD, Justin E. Davies, MD, PhD and Patrick W. Serruys, MD, PhD

Background: Lack of re-endothelialization and neointimal coverage on stent struts has been put forward as the main underlying mechanism leading to late stent thrombosis. Incomplete stent apposition (ISA) has been observed frequently in patients with very late stent thrombosis after drug eluting stent implantation, suggesting a role of ISA in the pathogenesis of this adverse event. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of different degrees of ISA severity on abnormal shear rate and healing response with coverage, because of its potential implications for stent optimization in clinical practice.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Coronary Interventions. Risk of Acute Kidney Injury After Percutaneous Coronary Interventions Using Radial Versus Femoral Vascular Access. Insights From the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium

Judith Kooiman, MSc, Milan Seth, MS, Simon Dixon, MD, David Wohns, MD, Thomas LaLonde, MD, Sunil V. Rao, MD and Hitinder S. Gurm, MD

Background: Transradial percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI [TRI]) does not involve catheter manipulation in the descending aorta, whereas transfemoral PCI (TFI) does. Therefore, the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) after PCI might be influenced by vascular access site. We compared risks of AKI and nephropathy requiring dialysis (NRD) among patients treated with TRI and TFI.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Coronary Interventions. Optical Coherence Tomographic Evaluation of Transplant Coronary Artery Vasculopathy With Correlation to Cellular Rejection

Liang Dong, MD, Akiko Maehara, MD, Tamim M. Nazif, MD, Ari T. Pollack, MD, Shigeo Saito, MD, LeRoy E. Rabbani, MD, Mark A. Apfelbaum, MD, Kate Dalton, MS, RD, Jeffrey W. Moses, MD, Ulrich P. Jorde, MD, Ke Xu, PhD, Gary S. Mintz, MD, Donna M. Mancini, MD and Giora Weisz, MD

Background: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy is an accelerated fibroproliferative process that affects the coronary arteries of transplanted hearts. Intracoronary imaging with optical coherence tomography enables detection of subangiographic cardiac allograft vasculopathy.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Coronary Interventions. Safety and Efficacy of a Potential Treatment Algorithm by Using Manual Compression Repair and Ultrasound-Guided Thrombin Injection for the Management of Iatrogenic Femoral Artery Pseudoaneurysm in a Large Patient Cohort

Marijana Dzijan-Horn, MD, Nicolas Langwieser, MD, Philipp Groha, MD, Christian Bradaric, MD, Maryam Linhardt, MD, Corinna Böttiger, MD, Robert A. Byrne, MB BCh, PhD, Birgit Steppich, MD, Tobias Koppara, MD, Julia Gödel, MD, Martin Hadamitzky, MD, Ilka Ott, MD, Nicolas von Beckerath, MD, Adnan Kastrati, MD, Karl-Ludwig Laugwitz, MD and Tareq Ibrahim, MD

Background: Because of the risk of associated complications, femoral pseudoaneurysm (PSA) formation implies further treatment. Ultrasound-guided thrombin injection (UGTI) is becoming the accepted gold standard, but manual compression (MC) represents an established treatment option including PSAs not feasible for UGTI. This study aims to assess our experience in PSA treatment using MC or UGTI according to a potential algorithm based on morphological properties in a large patient cohort.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Myocardial Infarction. Remote Ischemic Postconditioning During Percutaneous Coronary Interventions. Remote Ischemic Postconditioning–Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Randomized Trial

Shahar Lavi, MD, Sabrina D’Alfonso, MSc, Pantelis Diamantouros, MD, Anthony Camuglia, MD, Pallav Garg, MD, Patrick Teefy, MD, George Jablonsky, MD, Kumar Sridhar, MD and Ronit Lavi, MD

Background: Remote ischemic preconditioning may result in reduction in infarct size during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). It is unclear whether remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPost) will reduce the incidence of myocardial injury after PCI, and whether ischemic conditioning of a larger remote organ (thigh versus arm) would provide further myocardial protection.
