SPRINGER. Frequency and appearance of hemosiderin depositions after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage treated by endovascular therapy

Bernhard Falter, Martin Wiesmann, Jessica Freiherr, Omid Nikoubashman, Michael Mull

Introduction: It is still unclear how often subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) leads to chronic hemosiderin depositions. In this study, we aimed to determine the frequency of chronic hemosiderin depositions after aneurysmal SAH in patients who did not undergo surgery. Furthermore, we analyzed typical MRI patterns of chronic SAH and sought to obtain information on the temporal course of MRI signal changes.

SPRINGER. Distance to thrombus on MR angiography predicts outcome of middle cerebral artery occlusion treated with IV thrombolysis

Matthias Gawlitza , Benjamin Friedrich, Ulf Quäschling, Stefan Schob, Alexander Schaudinn, Carsten Hobohm, Karl-Titus Hoffmann, Donald Lobsien

Introduction: The distance to thrombus (DT) on CT angiography was recently proposed as a predictor of outcome in patients treated by intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for stroke due to occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). The purpose of the present study was to validate its inter-rater reliability and its prognostic value on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA). Furthermore, we investigated the relation between DT and FLAIR-vascular hyperintensities (FVH) as a surrogate of collateral circulation and hypoperfusion.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Endoluminal Reconstruction for Nonsaccular Aneurysms of the Proximal Posterior Cerebral Artery with the Pipeline Embolization Device

D.W. Zumofen, M. Shapiro, T. Becske, E. Raz, M.B. Potts, H.A. Riina and P.K. Nelson

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Treatment options for nonsaccular posterior cerebral artery aneurysms include a range of surgical and endovascular reconstructive and deconstructive methods. However, no truly satisfactory treatment option is available to date for lesions arising from the P1 and P2 segments. The purpose of the present case series is to investigate both the efficacy and safety of the Pipeline Embolization Device in treating these challenging aneurysms.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Application of a Novel Brain Arteriovenous Malformation Endovascular Grading Scale for Transarterial Embolization

D.L. Bell, T.M. Leslie-Mazwi, A.J. Yoo, J.D. Rabinov, W.E. Butler, J.E. Bell and J.A. Hirsch

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The advent of modern neuroendovascular techniques has highlighted the need for a simple, effective, and reliable brain arteriovenous malformation endovascular grading scale. A novel scale of this type has recently been described. It incorporates the number of feeding arteries, eloquence, and the presence of an arteriovenous fistula component. Our aim is to assess the validity of this grading scale.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NEURORADIOLOGY. Treatment of Benign Thyroid Nodules: Comparison of Surgery with Radiofrequency Ablation

Y. Che, S. Jin, C. Shi, L. Wang, X. Zhang, Y. Li and J.H. Baek

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Nodular goiter is one of the most common benign lesions in thyroid nodule. The main treatment of the disease is still the traditional surgical resection, however there are many problems such as general anesthesia, surgical scar, postoperative thyroid or parathyroid function abnormalities, and high nodules recurrence rate in residual gland. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of 2 treatment methods, surgery and radiofrequency ablation, for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules.
