JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Multicenter retrospective investigation into migration of fenestrated aortic stent grafts

Andrew England, PhD, Marta García-Fiñana, PhD, Richard G. McWilliams, FRCR, EBIR

Objective: Fenestrated stent grafts are subject to the same hemodynamic forces that have resulted in migration of standard infrarenal stent grafts. Outcome data for fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair consist of short-term and midterm efficacy studies where migration was generally poorly investigated. This study investigated the migration of fenestrated stent grafts in patients treated by fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair in the United Kingdom.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Aneurysmal degeneration of the thoracoabdominal aorta after medical management of type B aortic dissections

Christopher A. Durham, MD, Nathan J. Aranson, MD, Emel A. Ergul, MS, Linda J. Wang, MD, Virendra I. Patel, MD, MPH, Richard P. Cambria, MD, Mark F. Conrad, MD, MMSc

Background: Patients with uncomplicated type B aortic dissections who are managed medically are at risk of aortic aneurysmal degeneration over time. However, the effect of improvement in antihypertensive medications and stricter blood pressure control is unknown. The goal of this study was to determine the rate of aneurysmal degeneration in a contemporary cohort of patients with medically treated type B dissection.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Three-year outcome of the heparin-bonded Viabahn for superficial femoral artery occlusive disease

Bahar Golchehr, MD, Rombout Kruse, MD, PhD, Laurens A. van Walraven, MD, Mare M.A. Lensvelt, MD, PhD, Clark J. Zeebregts, MD, PhD, Michel M.P.J. Reijnen, MD, PhD

Objective: Self-expanding covered stents for superficial femoral artery (SFA) occlusive disease have undergone an evolution during the years. Early results of the latest generation, the heparin-bonded Viabahn (W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, Ariz) with a contoured proximal edge, were promising, with reported 1-year primary patency rates of 73% to 78% in long lesions. The aim of this study was to present the 3-year outcome of the heparin-bonded Viabahn for SFA occlusive disease.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR SURGERY. Lesion complexity drives the cost of superficial femoral artery endovascular interventions

Karen L. Walker, MD, Brian W. Nolan, MD, Jesse A. Columbo, MD, Eva M. Rzucidlo, MD, Philip P. Goodney, MD, Daniel B. Walsh, MD, Benjamin J. Atkinson, BA, Richard J. Powell, MD

Objective: Patients who undergo endovascular treatment of superficial femoral artery (SFA) disease vary greatly in lesion complexity and treatment options. This study examined the association of lesion severity and cost of SFA stenting and to determine if procedure cost affects primary patency at 1 year.
