CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. The Caudate Lobe: The Blind Spot in Radioembolization or an Overlooked Opportunity?

Manon N. G. J. A. Braat, Andor F. van den Hoven, Pieter J. van Doormaal, Rutger C. Bruijnen, Marnix G. E. H. Lam, Maurice A. A. J. van den Bosch

Purpose: The caudate lobe (CL) is impartial to the functional left and right hemi-liver and has outspoken inter-individual differences in arterial vascularization. Unfortunately, this complexity is not specifically taken into account during radioembolization treatment (RE), potentially resulting in under- or overtreatment of the CL. The objective of this study was to evaluate the CL coverage in RE and determine the detection rate of the CL arteries on CT angiography during work-up.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Change in Imaging Findings on Angiography-Assisted CT During Balloon-Occluded Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Rika Yoshimatsu, Takuji Yamagami, Masaki Ishikawa, Kenji Kajiwara, Hiroshi Aikata, Kazuaki Chayama, Kazuo Awai

Purpose: To evaluate changes in imaging findings on CT during hepatic arteriography (CTHA) and CT during arterial portography (CTAP) by balloon occlusion of the treated artery and their relationship with iodized oil accumulation in the tumor during balloon-occluded transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (B-TACE).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Flow Reduction with Adjustable Polytetrafluoroethylene-Covered Balloon-Expandable Stents Using the “Sheath Control” Technique

Robert C. Blue, Grace C. Lo, Edward Kim, Rahul S. Patel, F. Scott Nowakowski, Robert A. Lookstein, Aaron M. Fischman

Purpose: A complication of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS) placement is refractory portosystemic encephalopathy (PSE) often requiring TIPS reduction. We report the results of a “sheath control technique” utilizing constraining sheaths during deployment of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-covered balloon-expandable stents, minimizing stent migration, and providing additional procedural control.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Percutaneous Treatment of Simple Hepatic Cysts: The Long-Term Results of PAIR and Catheterization Techniques as Single-Session Procedures

Okan Akhan, Filiz Islim, Sinan Balci, Aysun Erbahceci, Burcu Akpınar, Turkmen Ciftci, Devrim Akinci

Purpose: The purpose of our study is to evaluate results of percutaneous aspiration with alcohol sclerotherapy in symptomatic patients with simple hepatic cysts by employing single-session techniques either by a needle or a catheter.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Radiation Exposure of Interventional Radiologists During Computed Tomography Fluoroscopy-Guided Renal Cryoablation and Lung Radiofrequency Ablation: Direct Measurement in a Clinical Setting

Yusuke Matsui, Takao Hiraki, Hideo Gobara, Toshihiro Iguchi, Hiroyasu Fujiwara, Takahiro Kawabata, Takatsugu Yamauchi, Takuya Yamaguchi, Susumu Kanazawa

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopy-guided renal cryoablation and lung radiofrequency ablation (RFA) have received increasing attention as promising cancer therapies. Although radiation exposure of interventional radiologists during these procedures is an important concern, data on operator exposure are lacking.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Comparison of Balloon-Occluded Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration (BRTO) Using Ethanolamine Oleate (EO), BRTO Using Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate (STS) Foam and Vascular Plug-Assisted Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration (PARTO)

Young Hwan Kim, Young Hwan Kim, Chan Sun Kim, Ung Rae Kang, See Hyung Kim, Joo Hwan Kim

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) using ethanolamine oleate (EO), BRTO using sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) foam, and vascular plug-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration (PARTO).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Adjuvant Hepatic Arterial Infusion Chemotherapy After Resection for Pancreatic Cancer Using Coaxial Catheter-Port System Compared with Conventional System

Aya Hashimoto, Toshihiro Tanaka, Masayuki Sho, Hideyuki Nishiofuku, Tetsuya Masada, Takeshi Sato, Nagaaki Marugami, Hiroshi Anai, Hiroshi Sakaguchi, Masatoshi Kanno, Tetsuro Tamamoto, Masatoshi Hasegawa, Yoshiyuki Nakajima, Kimihiko Kichikawa

Purpose: Previous reports have shown the effectiveness of adjuvant hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) in pancreatic cancer. However, percutaneous catheter placement is technically difficult after pancreatic surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and outcome of HAIC using a coaxial technique compared with conventional technique for postoperative pancreatic cancer.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Mortality and Rates of Secondary Intervention After EVAR in an Unselected Population: Influence of Simple Clinical Categories and Implications for Surveillance

Christopher J. Hammond, Asim H. Shah, Andrew Snoddon, Jai V. Patel, D. Julian A. Scott

Introduction: Post-EVAR surveillance has a major impact upon patients, carers and healthcare resources. We hypothesised that elective indication, on-IFU anatomy, use of a modern device or normal first CTA, or a combination of these categories, might predict a rate of secondary intervention low enough to alter current surveillance protocols.
