RADIOLOGY. Longitudinal Monitoring of Hepatic Blood Flow before and after TIPS by Using 4D-Flow MR Imaging

Peter Bannas, MD , Alejandro Roldán-Alzate, PhD , Kevin M. Johnson, PhD , Michael A. Woods, MD , Orhan Ozkan, MD , Utaroh Motosugi, MD, PhD, Oliver Wieben, PhD , Scott B. Reeder, MD, PhD , Harald Kramer, MD

Purpose: To demonstrate the feasibility of four-dimensional (4D)–flow magnetic resonance (MR) imaging for noninvasive longitudinal hemodynamic monitoring of hepatic blood flow before and after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement.

RADIOLOGY. Aldosterone-producing Adenoma in Primary Aldosteronism: CT-guided Radiofrequency Ablation—Long-term Results and Recurrence Rate

Shirley Yuk Wah Liu, MBChB, FRCSEd, Charmant Cheuk Man Chu, MBChB, FRCR(UK), Teresa Kam Chi Tsui, MBChB, FRCPA, Simon Kin Hung Wong, MBChB, FRCSEd, Alice Pik Shan Kong, MBChB, FRCP, MD, Philip Wai Yan Chiu, MBChB, FRCSEd, MD, Francis Chun Chung Chow, MBChB, FRCP, Enders Kwok Wai Ng, MBChB, FRCSEd, MD

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term biochemical, clinical, and recurrence outcomes of radiofrequency (RF) ablation in treating primary aldosteronism due to aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA).

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY & HEPATOLOGY. Comparison of single-session transarterial chemoembolization combined with microwave ablation or radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma: a randomized-controlled study

Sheta, Elshazly; El-Kalla, Ferial; El-Gharib, Mohamed; Kobtan, Abdelrahman; Elhendawy, Mohammed; Abd-Elsalam, Sherief; Mansour, Loai; Amer, Ibrahim

Background: Globally, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most frequent cause of cancer-related mortality. In recent years, transarterial chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, and microwave ablation (MWA) have been accepted as treatment modalities for patients with surgically unresectable HCC.

JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Lack of evidence of an effect of direct-acting antivirals on the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma: Data from three ANRS cohorts

The ANRS collaborative study group on hepatocellular carcinoma

Background & Aims: Sustained virological response following interferon-based antiviral treatment of chronic hepatitis C is associated with decreased long-term risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in advanced liver fibrosis. An unexpected high rate of HCC recurrence following antiviral treatment using direct-acting antiviral (DAA) has recently been reported.

JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Early occurrence and recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in HCV-related cirrhosis treated with direct-acting antivirals

Fabio Conti, Federica Buonfiglioli, Alessandra Scuteri, Cristina Crespi, Luigi Bolondi, Paolo Caraceni, Francesco Giuseppe Foschi, Marco Lenzi, Giuseppe Mazzella, Gabriella Verucchi, Pietro Andreone, Stefano Brillanti

Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents a serious complication of HCV-related cirrhosis. New direct-acting antivirals (DAA) cure HCV infection in over 90% of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the early occurrence and recurrence of HCC in cirrhotic patients treated with DAA.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Effects of Performance Feedback Reports on Adherence to Evidence-Based Guidelines in Use of CT for Evaluation of Pulmonary Embolism in the Emergency Department: A Randomized Trial

Ali S. Raja, Ivan K. Ip, Ruth M. Dunne, Jeremiah D. Schuur, Angela M. Mills and Ramin Khorasani

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to assess whether implementing emergency department (ED) physician performance feedback reports improves adherence to evidence-based guidelines for use of CT for evaluation of pulmonary embolism (PE) beyond that achieved with clinical decision support (CDS) alone.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Evaluation of Posttreatment Follow-Up of Patients With Prostate Cancer Relative to the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria

Jennifer S. McDonald, Rickey E. Carter, R. Jeffrey Karnes, John D. Port, Akira Kawashima, Stephanie K. Carlson and Claire E. Bender

OBJECTIVE. The American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria panel has recommended that patients with prostate cancer who have received treatment undergo imaging only after suspected cancer recurrence. We examined whether local physicians followed this recommendation and what types of imaging examinations were ordered in a cohort of patients with local prostate cancer.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. CT Appearance of Traumatic Inferior Vena Cava Injury

Richard Tsai, Constantine Raptis, Douglas J. Schuerer and Vincent M. Mellnick

OBJECTIVE. CT plays a crucial role in the evaluation of stable patients with blunt and penetrating trauma in the emergency department. Among the more severe injuries that may occur in penetrating and blunt trauma are those to the inferior vena cava (IVC). The purpose of this study was to evaluate and differentiate the CT findings associated with penetrating versus blunt trauma to the IVC to aid the radiologist in diagnosing IVC injuries.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Radiation Risk to the Fluoroscopy Operator and Staff

Cosette M. Stahl, Quinn C. Meisinger, Michael P. Andre, Thomas B. Kinney and Isabel G. Newton

OBJECTIVE. Recent articles discussing cases of brain cancer in interventionalists have raised concerns regarding the hazards of occupational exposure to ionizing radiation. We review the basics of radiation dose and the potential radiation effects, particularly as they pertain to the operator. Then we present the data regarding the risk of each type of radiation effect to the fluoroscopy operator and staff, with special attention on cancer induction, radiation-induced cataracts, and the pregnant operator.

AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. MRI-Guided Prostate Interventions

Eric M. Walser, Thaddeus F. Sze, Jason R. Ross, Ara A. Karamanian and David A. Woodrum

OBJECTIVE. The objective of this study is to discuss the use of MRI-guided and MRI-directed prostate biopsy techniques, describe how interventional MRI focal therapies are used for the treatment of prostate cancer, and predict future directions in prostate interventional MRI. The prospect of establishing a center for prostate imaging, diagnosis, and treatment is also discussed.
