Hahn , MD; Samir Kapadia , MD; Ajay J. Kirtane , MD, SM; Susheel K. Kodali , MD; Michael Mack , MD; Wilson Y. Szeto , MD; Vinod H. Thourani , MD; E. Murat Tuzcu , MD; Mathew R. Williams , MD; Jodi J. Akin , MSN; Martin B. Leon , MD; Lars G. Svensson , MD, PhD

Background: The higher risk of adverse outcomes after transapical (TA) versus transfemoral (TF) transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) could be attributable to TA-TAVR being an open surgical procedure or to clinical differences between TA- and TF-TAVR patients. We compared outcomes after neutralizing patient differences using propensity score matching.

CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. Cardiac Catheterization. Impact of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention on Short- and Long-Term Outcomes

Daniele Giacoppo, MD, Mahesh V. Madhavan, MD, Usman Baber, MD, MS, Josephine Warren, MD, Sameer Bansilal, MD, MS, Bernhard Witzenbichler, MD, George D. Dangas, MD, PhD, Ajay J. Kirtane, MD, SM, Ke Xu, PhD, Ran Kornowski, MD, Sorin J. Brener, MD, Philippe Généreux, MD, Gregg W. Stone, MD and Roxana Mehran, MD

Background: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI), defined as a serum creatinine increase ≥0.5 mg/dL or ≥25% within 72 hours after contrast exposure, is a common complication of procedures requiring contrast media and is associated with increased short- and long-term morbidity and mortality. Few studies describe the effects of CI-AKI in a large-scale acute coronary syndrome population, and the relationship between CI-AKI and bleeding events has not been extensively explored. We sought to evaluate the impact of CI-AKI after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome.
