Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate whether the 2 tirofiban formulations tested in the early and late phases of the PRISM (Platelet Receptor Inhibitor in Ischemic Syndrome Management) trial might differ with respect to risk for thrombocytopenia and clinical outcomes compared with unfractionated heparin (UFH).
Objectives: The authors performed this analysis to examine whether the enhanced clopidogrel responsiveness in current smokers is maintained after adjusting the influence of hemoglobin on VerifyNow P2Y12 reaction unit (PRU).
Objectives: The authors assessed the use of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) during the ROCKET AF (Rivaroxaban Once Daily Oral Direct Factor Xa Inhibition Compared with Vitamin K Antagonism for Prevention of Stroke and Embolism Trial in Atrial Fibrillation).
Objectives: The study sought to examine the risk of ischemic events and bleeding episodes associated with differing antithrombotic strategies in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF).
An 86-year-old woman with polycythemia vera (high allele burden of JAK2 V617F mutation: 95.3%) was referred for pulmonary edema due to severe aortic valve stenosis and was scheduled for transapical transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Because hydroxyurea administration was interrupted because of retromalleolar ulcers, preoperative blood examinations showed severe thrombocytosis (1,500 × 109/l) and neutrophilic leukocytosis (24.6 × 109/l).
A 44-year-old man with prior Nissen fundoplication presented with chest pain, hypotension, tachycardia, and inferior ST-segment elevation on electrocardiography. Coronary angiography demonstrated normal coronaries, and left ventriculography revealed radiolucency in the pericardial space (Figure 1, Online Video 1). Echocardiographic windows were poor. Right heart catheterization revealed diastolic equalization of pressures consistent with tamponade. He improved initially with intravenous fluids but developed recurrent hypotension and worsening sinus tachycardia. During pericardiocentesis, air and fluid were aspirated with immediate stabilization. Chest radiograph obtained before pericardiocentesis revealed pneumomediastinum (Figure 2). Computed tomography of the chest and abdomen suggested gastropericardial fistula (Figure 3), which was later repaired surgically.
Objectives: The authors propose a novel transcatheter transection of the anterior mitral leaflet to prevent iatrogenic left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction during transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR).
A 61-year-old woman presented to a rural hospital with inferior ST-elevation myocardial infarction 13 months after uncomplicated elective percutaneous coronary intervention with implantation of a 3.5 × 28-mm Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS; Abbott Vascular, Abbott Park, Illinois) in the right coronary artery for stable coronary artery disease
A 25-year-old male presented to us 3 days after experiencing a stab knife injury to the left third intercostal space. Cardiac computed tomography (Figures 1A and 1B) showed moderate hemopericardium, autosealed perforation in the right ventricle and a large ventricular septal rupture (VSR). Two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography with color Doppler (Figures 1C and 1D, Online Video 1) showed mild pericardial effusion, a large high muscular VSR with left to right shunt and an autosealed perforation in the right ventricle.
Objectives: This study aims to describe the discussions and recommendations made during the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Circulatory System Device Panel pre-market approval application for the Absorb Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold (BVS) System.
Objectives: The authors conducted a systematic pairwise and network meta-analysis to assess optimal treatment strategies in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and multivessel coronary artery disease (MV-CAD) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of sex on 2-year outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients randomly allocated to 24-month versus 6-month dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).
Objectives: This study sought to assess the impact of chronic total occlusion (CTO) on long-term prognosis in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy.
Objectives: This study sought to determine whether “real-world” data supported the hypothesis that therapeutic hypothermia (TH) led to increased rates of stent thrombosis.
Objectives: The Registry of the Utilization of the TAo-TAVR approach using the Edwards SAPIEN Valve (ROUTE) was established to assess the effectiveness and safety of the use of transaortic (TAo) access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures (NCT01991431).
